What a great day of skills training and hands-on learning ✨
As midwives, we’re trained to support and care for normal, physiologic birth — but we also know birth can change quickly and surprises can happen. Ongoing simulation training helps us stay sharp and prepared for rare but serious situations like hemorrhage, neonatal and maternal resuscitation, IV insertion, retained placenta, laceration repair, shoulder dystocia, breech and in some settings twins (breech and twins are outside the scope of practice for licensed midwives in California). We practice to build muscle memory, teamwork, and confidence so we can respond safely and effectively.
In my own practice I’ve experienced emergencies that were safely managed at hime, but I’ve also recognized when it was time to transfer and access a higher level of care. Knowing how to act and when to escalate is part of responsible, safe midwifery.
Always learning. Always training. Always for the safety of our families. ✨
