Occupational therapy has long since played an important role in supporting mental health. Recent research has supported utilizing a sensory integration approach with individuals who have experienced trauma to assist in their transdisciplinary treatment.

This review reports that employing a sensory integration approach can relate to improved outcomes in occupational engagement, contribute to the ability to cope with the symptoms of trauma, and foster resilience. The review also emphasizes the importance of continuing professional development around trauma-informed care and the need for further empirical research.
