This season invites us to slow down — not just in our schedules, but at the table.

Mindful eating isn’t about rules or perfection.
It’s about presence.
About noticing the warmth of a meal, the flavors you love, the people you’re sharing it with.
About choosing foods that feel connected — to the season, to local growers, to traditions that ground you.

In the middle of busy days and full calendars, the table can become a refuge of stillness.
A place to breathe.
To savor.
To come back into your body.
You don’t need to change what you eat to practice mindful eating.
Just how you arrive.

This season, let meals be one of the places you slow down. 🤍

The holidays don’t have to be everything to be meaningful.
They don’t have to be packed, perfect, or exhausting.

This season, we’re inviting you to pause and ask: What do I actually love about the holidays?
Maybe it’s time with family, lingering over meals, and laughing around a game table.
Maybe it’s the magic and play — snow days, hide and seek, decorating the tree, or letting yourself feel a little childlike again.
Maybe it’s quiet moments by the fire with a book, or making a recipe that connects you to someone you miss.

Whatever it is for you — do more of that.
And give yourself permission to do less of the parts that leave you tapped out.

Protecting your energy isn’t selfish.
It’s how you stay present for the moments that matter most.

Wishing you a season that actually feels good 🤍

This time of year is loud. Ads promise a “new you” in 30 days, and suddenly it feels like you need the sauna, the red light, the ring, the tracker, the protocol—and a whole new life plan by January 1. But the truth is, the work that changes your health is usually unglamorous: the basics you repeat when no one’s watching. Consistent meals. Daily movement you actually enjoy. Sleep support. Nervous system regulation. Follow-through. Realistic goals. If you’re reflecting on your year right now, let it be an invitation to choose steady over extreme. You don’t need a reinvention. You need a plan you can live with.

Still feeling grateful after the Live Freely Market this weekend. 💛 Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hi, asked thoughtful questions, watched us blend custom teas, met Lila, or took a few minutes for a craniosacral mini session. We love bringing naturopathic medicine out into the community—making health feel more approachable, more practical, and a little more human. If you want to hear about upcoming outreach events, classes, and pop-ups we’ll be at, head to the link in our bio to join our newsletter (it’s also where we share recipes, health tips, journal prompts, and more).

From joyful to overloaded — I’ve been there.
I’ll get a lovely little idea in my head: bake some cookies, make a DIY gift, add a personal touch…
And before I know it, I’ve committed to a six-batch, hand-iced, herbal-infused extravaganza that leaves me exhausted.

This year, I’m asking a different question:
Not just “what do I want to do?”
But “what level of expression would actually feel good?”

If you’re finding yourself stretched thin by your own best intentions, maybe this is your reminder to scale it back — and still let it be meaningful.

“The one thing I don’t skip — even in the chaos of December.✨”

Between the late nights, last-minute errands, and all the emotion this season can stir up, it’s easy to forget about your own needs.

For me, maintaining a routine is the anchor.

It’s not fancy. It’s not complicated. But it’s consistent.
And it reminds me: my body matters too.
If you’ve been putting yourself last lately, consider this your nudge. Start with something nourishing in the morning — and notice what shifts. 💛

“The act of moving upstream and taking action before a problem arises is the heart of primary prevention.” — Larry Cohen

Primary prevention means acting before disease takes root—not waiting for warning signs, but understanding and shifting the terrain that makes illness more likely.

In the mouth, that means identifying microbial imbalances before they lead to chronic inflammation, gum disease, or contribute to deeper systemic issues.

One of our favorite tools for this? Oral microbiome testing. It helps us see what’s growing, what’s missing, and how to intervene—early, gently, and with intention.

🦷 True prevention starts upstream.

📩 Send this to someone who’s thinking about their health long-term.

What’s living in your mouth might be affecting way more than your teeth.

In this video, we’re talking about Porphyromonas gingivalis—a common oral pathogen linked to both arterial plaque and Alzheimer’s disease.

🧠 One study found it in 90% of Alzheimer’s brains on autopsy.
❤️ Another study found it in arterial plaque, suggesting it can move from the mouth into the bloodstream.
This is why we take oral health seriously at Aya—not just for cavities, but because the mouth connects to every system.

👇 Comment “WOW” if this blew your mind too.

📩 Share with someone who’s into brain health, prevention, or functional medicine—they need to see this.

I had no cavities. No bleeding gums. No symptoms.
But when I ran my oral microbiome test, I found high levels of Porphyromonas gingivalis — one of the most researched bacteria linked to both Alzheimer’s disease and heart disease.

This organism produces gingipains, toxins that can inflame and damage brain and heart tissue over time. Studies have even found P. gingivalis DNA in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s. 🧠💔

I ended up doing a short course of metronidazole, plus ozone and laser treatments to target it and protect my long-term cognitive and cardiovascular health.

The lesson? Even if you have a “perfect” dental check-up, your mouth might be hiding information your brain and heart care about.

Your oral microbiome is more than your smile — it’s a window into whole-body health.

Rooted in Tradition, Rising with Innovation.
This year’s NHAND conference reminded us why we fell in love with naturopathic medicine — the depth of learning, the energy of connection, and the shared mission to help our patients (and each other) thrive.

From ancient wisdom to cutting-edge science, our medicine continues to evolve — and weekends like this refill the cup that lets us keep showing up with heart. 💚

Grateful for the community that keeps this vision alive.

We’ve been taught oral health is about white teeth and minty breath.
But the truth? It’s about your heart, your brain, and your future health.

This month, we’re exploring the mouth as a mirror for the whole body — from inflammation to microbiome balance to longevity. 🦷💫

If you’ve ever wondered whether your oral care products, habits, or even your mouthwash might be working against you, this series is for you.
