If you’re not living in the current moment, it can be extremely difficult to actually enjoy it. Don’t worry about what this season “should” look like, and don’t try to compare this holiday season to ones in the past. Now is the time to make new memories!

But remember, you don’t have to force yourself to be bursting with holiday cheer. There are many reasons why you may feel sad around the holiday season, and that’s okay! What’s important is that you enjoy as much of the holidays as you can, when you can.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!

Did you know that a healthy diet can play a crucial role in your mental wellness? Making sure you’re getting all of your necessary nutrients and vitamins is a simple way to help cut down feelings of anxiety and depression.

However, we all know how hard it is to eat well over the holidays. Here are a few tips to help keep you on track this holiday season:

>Eat close to your normal times to keep your blood sugar level
>Offer to bring a healthy dish along to gatherings
>Limit alcohol consumption
>Fit in your favorites - depriving yourself will only precipitate binging later

If you slip up, don’t worry about it! Just try and eat better at your next meal. Worrying about your eating habits too much can increase your stress levels, which defeats the purpose of eating healthy.

Beyond the external festivities and celebrations, holidays provide a unique chance for self-reflection, introspection, and personal growth. Whether it's spending time with loved ones, exploring new places, or simply taking a break to recharge, holidays offer a space for individuals to connect with themselves on a deeper level. This quote reminds us that the true magic of holidays lies not just in the external experiences but in the internal exploration and self-discovery that can occur during these precious moments of respite.

If you experience increased anxiety over the holidays, don’t worry; you’re not alone. Around 40% of adults in the US report increased stress and anxiety around the holidays. But why does it happen?

There are lots of reasons why the holidays can bring on anxiety. Social gatherings or dealing with relatives can bring on social anxiety and isolation, and increases in responsibilities, such as shopping, cooking, and cleaning, only add to your overall stress.

The bottom line is, increased levels of stress and anxiety around the holidays can be completely normal. However, if these feelings continue past the holidays, or begin to interfere with your daily life, you may benefit from a little help.

The holidays bring on a lot of added responsibilities. Making a list is a great way to help you prioritize and stay on track. For example, overspending can lead to stress and feelings of anxiety and depression. Making a budget as well as a list of added and expected expenses can help negate overspending.

Writing out everything you have to have done can help you see when you’re trying to do too much. If your list is looking a little long, consider your priorities, and reevaluate what’s actually important to you this holiday season.

While the holiday season can be a joyous occasion, it can also bring on self-reflection, loneliness, and anxiety. This can cause a pervading sense of sadness during or around the holidays, commonly known as the holiday blues.

It’s important to understand the causes of the holiday blues so that we can do our best to help those suffering. Typical sources of the holiday blues include financial stress, lack of sleep, unrealistic expectations, and inability to be with loved ones. Inability to express the holiday blues can lead to developing unwanted stress responses, such as over-eating, headaches, or excessive drinking.

If you’re experiencing symptoms of the holiday blues, don’t wait for the holidays to end to find relief. Now is the perfect time. Give us a call at (704) 970-0088 today to see how we can help!

In nature, animals react to winter weather with changes in mood and behavior, and many people find that they react to winter weather too! Most people are able to work through these changes, however, some people may experience symptoms severe enough to interfere with their daily lives. These people are most likely suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression directly linked to the change of the seasons.

If you’re suffering from symptoms of depression, you don’t have to wait for the seasons to change to feel better. Let our team at TMS of the Carolinas help; give us a call at (704) 970-0088 today.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that occurs at specific times of the year, typically during the fall and winter months when there is less natural sunlight. The lack of sunlight can disrupt the body's internal clock (circadian rhythm) and lead to changes in serotonin and melatonin levels, affecting mood and sleep patterns. Common symptoms of SAD include low energy, irritability, difficulty concentrating, changes in sleep patterns, and a general sense of lethargy.

It's crucial for those experiencing symptoms to seek professional help for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate intervention. If you or a loved one is struggling with symptoms of SAD, you don’t have to push through it. Give TMS of the Carolinas a call at (704) 970-0088 to see how we can help.

The holiday season can be stressful, so over the next month, we’ll be sharing weekly tips to help you navigate the holidays in a healthy and happy way!

One great way to ensure that your holiday season stays merry and bright is to set realistic expectations. This is a great time to evaluate your boundaries and recognize that you have no obligation to meet others' expectations of you.

However, this doesn’t mean that the holidays will go exactly according to your plan - it’s important to accept that. Stay focused on enjoying the present moment, and don’t worry about whether this holiday season will be “as good” as ones in the past.
