Had an opportunity to take a transformative course last month. Thank you DMI Therapy - Practitioners Group! So thankful to be able to use these new techniques from Dynamic Movement Intervention to support clients here at Engage OT, LLC.

DMI is an intensive motor facilitation program that supports attainment of motor milestones, postural strengthening and symmetry, and correction of atypical motor patterns and postures. Such an amazing tool and looking forward to continuing onto the next level with DMI and seeing the clients here at Engage benefit and grow in their skills!

Engage OT is now certified in Quick Shifts for Sensorimotor Integrative Treatment and Astronaut Program 🚀. Thank you Vital Links!

It has been so fantastic to integrate many of the tools from these classes into sessions this week and to take the Astronaut Course with Emily from From The Ground Up OT :)

Engage OT is now SOFFI Certified for Infant Feeding therapy! 🤱👩‍🍼

So thankful for the information provided in the Feeding FUNdamentals, LLC SOFFI Course (Sequential Oral Feeding in Fragile Infants).

Love working with these babies and moms to help support their feeding journeys and overall development, it is such a gift to work with them. 💙🧡🩵

***Gearing up for our next developmental playgroups starting in January! ***

Little Sprouts will be starting the week of January 6 (12-24m old group). We are offering a Tuesday morning and a Saturday morning group (10:30-11:30am). Please see flyer for more details and message us here if interested!

Our Little Sprouts🌱 developmental playgroups last session were a blast!
What fun did we have?
-gross motor play in the clinic
-sensory swings
-taste safe paint play 🎨
-taste safe sand play
-dot marker art
-musical instrument play
-circle based songs
-parachute 🪂
-Food and tactile mats
-Food based painting
-DIY Sensory bottles
Parent focus:
-strategies to support gross motor development
-play skill development based on age
-at home activities to facilitate learning for age group 🛝
-recipes for taste safe activities completed in group with focus on benefits of sensory based play
-strategies to support language development (an OTs perspective- we refer when families need formal speech services 😊)
-Heavy work strategies for little ones- helping regulate busy bodies 🏃🏋️
-Learning about interoception (our internal body senses that impact our awareness of hot/cold, toileting needs, sleep/wake, and more!)
-education around purpose of activities in group and ways to support development at home specific to each child in the group

So grateful to have been able to take RMTi’s Rhythmic Movement Level I and II this weekend! 🌱

These gentle movements help the nervous system mature, starting at the level of the brainstem. 🧠

Primitive reflexes are really the foundation for movement and so many of our higher level skills are dependent on good integration. 🏃

Great to take a class that will directly benefit each client I work with. Thank you RMTi!!! 👏

👶🏼 Before birth and the first few months after birth, the primitive reflexes are the best friends of our nervous system as they are essential for providing the foundation of our ability to move.

🏃🏻 However, as we grow and start to learn to become upright, they should no longer take the first call on our nervous system for us to be able to move.

🙌🏼 As is the way of getting older, we get new best friends.

🍃 Our lifelong postural and protective reflexes take over and ideally stay with us as the best support throughout life.

✨ When the primitive reflexes still want to keep helping out, then a very tiring fight ensues between the primitive and postural on what has first call on the CNS – all to the detriment of our ability to mature and learn control.
