🩷October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🩷

At DALS, we honor and support everyone affected by breast cancer — from survivors and those in treatment, to the families and caregivers walking beside them.

This month, let’s spread the word:
✔ Get screened
✔ Know the signs and risk factors
✔ Show support for those fighting and those who have fought bravely

Together, we can raise awareness, encourage early detection, and stand strong with our community. 💪

💚 Today is World Mental Health Day 💚

At Deaconess Abundant Life Services (DALS), we believe that true well-being means more than physical health — it’s about living life abundantly in mind, body, and spirit.

This year’s theme reminds us that mental health is a universal human right. Everyone deserves access to understanding, support, and care — whether that’s reaching out for help, finding moments of peace, or simply connecting with others.

If you or someone you know needs support, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers free resources and guidance:

Let’s continue to care for ourselves and one another — so every person has the opportunity to live fully, meaningfully, and abundantly. 💚

💜 Community Collaboration in Action 💜

Yesterday afternoon Deaconess Abundant Life Services (DALS) was proud to sponsor the Liberty Alzheimers Partnership event "Understanding Memory" held at the Lexington Community Center.

It was a wonderful afternoon of learning and connection, featuring an insightful presentation by Dr. Elizabeth Vassey from the Boston Center for Memory who shared valuable information about Alzheimer’s disease and current research.

A special thank you to Bridges by EPOCH for providing delicious food and to all the community partners who helped make the event possible.

Together, we’re working to raise awareness, support caregivers, and promote compassionate, informed care for those living with memory loss.

Thank you to the Waltham COA & Senior Center for bringing the community together for such a meaningful event! 🌟

🌟 October is Physical Therapy Month! 🌟

At Deaconess Abundant Life Services (DALS), we know how essential physical therapy is in helping older adults stay strong, independent, and safe at home.

We’re especially proud that our Executive Director, Tori Taylor, is a Physical Therapist, bringing unique expertise and leadership that bridges clinical excellence with compassionate care.

We also have a close partnership with the Rehab team across Newbury Court and Rivercrest. Together, we collaborate to ensure seamless support for mobility, recovery, and overall well-being for all of our residents. 💙

Here’s to the Physical Therapists who help people move better, recover stronger, and live life to the fullest.

October 1 — International Day of Older Persons

Today we celebrate older adults everywhere and reflect on how we can build more inclusive, respectful, and supportive communities. This year’s theme, “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, Our Rights,” reminds us that each older person’s life, voice, and potential matter.

At DALS, we’re inspired to do more than “care” — we aim to empower. That means creating safe, age-friendly environments, nurturing mental and physical wellness, and recognizing the wisdom and contributions of older adults.

To all the older individuals we serve and support: thank you. Today we honor you, your stories, and the difference you make. 💜

🍂 This week is Fall Prevention Awareness Week! 🍂

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older adults, but the good news is that most falls can be prevented. At Deaconess Abundant Life Services (DALS), we help clients stay safe at home by:
✔ Checking for trip hazards and improving home safety
✔ Supporting mobility and exercise for strength and balance
✔ Offering reminders and assistance with medications
✔ Educating families on how to reduce fall risks

With the right support, older adults can maintain independence and live confidently at home. 💙

Let’s work together to keep our loved ones safe!
