Happy American Heart Health Month! ❤️Your heart works nonstop, and when it struggles, the effects can show up far beyond your chest. At Paragon Surgical Specialists, we discuss your heart health as part of your overall treatment plan. Your cardiovascular system supports healing after surgery, because tissues need strong blood flow to recover. Maintaining heart health through diet, physical activity, and medical care can reduce the risk of complex surgical complications later.

Protecting your heart today can make future procedures safer and recovery smoother. American Heart Month is a great time to focus on small lifestyle changes that can make a big impact. Visit the American Heart Association website for excellent heart-healthy resources: https://bit.ly/4ttgliO

At Paragon Vein Care, we're happy to help treat spider veins when they appear (oh...and ask us about our current sclerotherapy special). But there are some steps (literally 😉) you can take to help prevent them in the first place. We’ve pulled together some ways you can start today to support healthier circulation and reduce your risk.

Spider Vein Prevention Checklist:
✅ Stay active — regular movement keeps blood flowing
✅ Take breaks from long sitting or standing sessions
✅ Elevate your legs when resting
✅ Wear compression stockings if recommended
✅ Maintain a healthy weight
✅ Protect skin from excessive sun exposure
✅ Choose shoes with good support (avoid high heels for long periods)

These everyday habits can help support vein health and overall comfort. For even more tips, check out this article:👇

Colorectal cancer is no longer just an “older adult” disease. New data shows it has become the leading cause of cancer-related death for men and women under age 50 — surpassing other major cancers in younger adults and continuing to rise in incidence and mortality. This trend is concerning because younger adults are often diagnosed at later, more advanced stages, when outcomes are harder to improve. The good news? Many cases can be prevented or caught early with the right screening at the right time. Read the latest information from the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, 👉 📎 https://bit.ly/4pRmC4z

At Paragon Surgical Specialists, we care deeply about education and early detection. That’s why we encourage everyone to talk with their healthcare provider about when to begin colorectal cancer screening — especially if you’re 45 or older, have a family history, or are experiencing symptoms like changes in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss, or bleeding. Younger people can have symptoms, too—please don't ignore them.

Getting screened gives you the best chance to prevent cancer or find it early when it’s most treatable. Talk to your provider to learn more about why this matters and how you can take charge of your health in our linked article.

The American Cancer Society recommends the following guidelines for women at average risk for breast cancer. For screening purposes, a woman is considered to be at average risk if she doesn’t have a personal history of breast cancer, a strong family history of breast cancer, or a genetic mutation known to increase risk of breast cancer (such as in a BRCA gene), and has not had chest radiation therapy before the age of 30.

• Women between 40 and 44 have the option to start screening with a mammogram every year.
• Women 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year.
• Women 55 and older can switch to a mammogram every other year, or they can choose to continue yearly mammograms. •

All women should understand what to expect when getting a mammogram for breast cancer screening – what the test can and cannot do. Clinical breast exams (physical exams done by a health professional) are not recommended for breast cancer screening among average-risk women at any age.
