Core Project: Caring 4 Girls Project (My Period My Pride)
Month after month, millions of women and girls around the world resort to managing their period with pieces of mattress, newspaper, or even tree bark because they lack access to or cannot afford proper sanitation products. For many of these girls, getting their period means putting their life on hold.
The Caring4Girls project helps to improve girls access to quality education with the intent to develop them into change makers who will contribute positively to their communities.
Investing in girls’ education is “the highest-return investment”. 62 MILLION GIRLS (half of them adolescents) AROUND THE WORLD ARE NOT IN SCHOOL. The Caring4Girls project will help break down barriers to girls' education so they can stay in school each day of the month and build healthier families, stronger communities, and a brighter future (#LetGirlsLearn).
Girls are forced to miss out on school (3-5 days) when they menstruate because they can’t afford sanitary towels during their period. The Caring4Girls Project aim at providing free sanitary pad kits and training young women on how to make re-usable sanitary pads. In addition, they benefit from interactive educational sessions on puberty, menstruation, personal hygiene, sexual health and STIs during each training.
This program aims at achieving the following main goals:
Goal 1. Girls will not have to miss school simply because they are menstruating.
Goal 2. Girls should feel free and comfortable even during their menstruation period.
Goal 3. Girls will be able to make their own affordable re-usable sanitary pads from natural and chemical-free materials.
