Know the numbers—because they matter. About 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70, making it one of the most common cancers in the U.S. That’s why awareness, prevention, and early detection play such a critical role in protecting your health. ☀️May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and the team at Paragon Surgical Specialists encourages you to take a few minutes each month to check your skin for any new or changing spots. Thinking about surgery can feel overwhelming—but recovery doesn't have to be. Minimally invasive surgery includes advanced technology and allows for smaller incisions to help reduce pain, speed up recovery, and get you back to your routine faster. In fact, these techniques often lead to less tissue damage, fewer complications, and a quicker return to normal activities compared to traditional surgery. At Paragon Surgical Specialists, our team is focused on providing advanced surgical options that prioritize your comfort and recovery.

A colectomy is a surgical procedure to treat diseases of the colon or the large intestine. During a colectomy, surgeons remove a portion of the colon. Ulcerative colitis (UC) may require treatment with a colectomy. UC causes inflammation and ulceration of the inner lining of the large intestine. As the colon becomes inflamed, it is less able to hold water and waste. As a result, a person may experience more frequent bowel movements and diarrhea. In some cases, a person with severe UC or complications resulting from it may need to have a colectomy, which involves the surgical removal of the colon. https://bit.ly/3T0D6Kf
