Welcoming an individual with vision loss into your home can seem intimidating, but with a few simple adjustments you can create a safe and accommodating environment.

In addition to securing rugs, improving lighting, and clearly marking steps and stairways, Occupational Therapist (OT) Christelle Ambrose goes into detail about the updates you can make by visiting the link in the comments.

PD: The first slide shows a woman helping a man read a bottle with the text: Home updates to welcome an individual with vision loss. The second says, secure or remove throw rugs with a photo of a rug being rolled up. On the third slide, a senior woman reads a book by lamplight and text states: Improve lighting throughout. The next slide shows caution tape on the edge of a stair with text saying, Clearly mark steps and stairways. The final slide says: read our blog post to learn more.

Future In Sight is working on behalf of the NH Governor's Commission on Disability to offer the NH Telecommunications Equipment Assistance Program (NH-TEAP) to residents of New Hampshire with vision loss, hearing loss, and challenges to speech and mobility.

This program helps these individuals acquire an accessible landline OR mobile phone plus provides training on how to access emergency services.

Phones are available at up to a 50% discount to individuals who qualify for the program based on the disabilities mentioned above. In some cases, the cost of the phone may be fully covered.

If you or someone you know could benefit from having an accessible telephone, contact Future In Sight at 603-224-4039 or services@futureinsight.org. For more info on the program, visit the link in the comments.

PD: Alternating photos of individuals speaking on TEAP accessible phones and images of the phones themselves. Each phone includes features like large and light-up buttons.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us at the Walk For Sight on Saturday. We had beautiful weather, adorable puppies, great music, an inspiring Grand Marshal, and a ton of love and support from the community.

Thanks to everyone who supported us on Saturday and over the past several months, we have reached our $100,000 goal!

The excitement is still going, however. Due to popular demand we have extended the deadline for the 50/50 to Wednesday, so there is still time to enter! The drawing will be broadcasted live on Facebook and the winner will be notified via email. You can purchase tickets through the link in the comments.

PD: The first photo is of walkers lined up in front of the State House. Then, our 11-year-old Grand Marshal Jayden making his speech surrounded by family. After that is a group of three women holding up the Walk For Sight photo frame. The next slide shows a team dressed in tie-dye and leis walking. Then, someone petting a yellow lab puppy at the Puppy Kissing Booth. The next photo is of a line of walkers under a Walk For Sight cross-street banner. After that is a team stopping and smiling for a photo along the route. A photo of two Miss New Hampshires holding up the photo frame is next. The final photo is of three people walking the route.
