MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY: The FDA Has Approved the First Digital Treatment for Generalized Anxiety Disorder
DaylightRx is an innovative digital formulation of cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety that teaches patients evidence-based techniques to change the thoughts and behaviors that maintain chronic worry and anxiety. DaylightRx includes interactive lessons on applied relaxation to reduce tension, stimulus control to decrease worry frequency, cognitive restructuring to break the spiral of anxious thoughts, and exposure to reduce intensity of worry. DaylightRx includes guided practice exercises designed to support patients in integrating these techniques into their daily lives. DaylightRx is a 90-day treatment for patients aged 22 and older. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), now called metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), is the buildup of extra fat in liver cells that is NOT caused by alcohol. If more than 5% – 10% percent of the liver’s weight is fat, then it is called a fatty liver (steatosis). The more advanced form of NAFLD/MASLD is nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), now called metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). NASH/MASH causes the liver to swell and become damaged. About 100 million people (about 25%) in the United States are estimated to have NAFLD/MASLD. Cirrhosis (scar buildup) can develop if NASH/MASH advances. Early diagnosis of NAFLD/MASLD, along with following medical advice, can reduce a person’s chance of NAFLD/MASLD progressing to NASH/MASH and cirrhosis.
