At Concordia Spine & Sport, Dr. Will is able to treat a variety of common complaints such as low back pain, sciatica, and headaches, as well as shoulder pain, plantar fascitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and most other aches and pain related to the joints, muscles, and nervous system. Treatment can consist of chiropractic adjustments, soft-tissue release, low-force adjusting techniques, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation programs. Dr. Will utilizes these treatment techniques to help resolve dysfunctional movements that are typically the root cause of most muscle and joint pain. As we age, we tend to develop "bad habits of movement" that cause stress to build in some areas of our body, while weakness is more prevalent in other areas. Dr. Will helps to resolve these dysfunctional movements, or "bad habits", which will not only lead to being pain free within a shorter amount of time, but being able to maintain that feeling for a prolonged period of time. Dr. Will works with every patient to develop a unique treatment plan that has a few main goals. The second goal is to help people understand why they were in pain which is pivotal for long term success (i.e., staying pain free!). The third goal is to give patients the tools (exercises, stretches, ergonomics, etc.) to maintain the improvements that we were able to achieve so that the risk for re-injury is minimal.

This weekend I attended our fall conference for the Kansas Chiropractic Association and had the opportunity to sit in on some great continuing education classes. While the classes were helpful, something way more amazing happened in my opinion. I learned the fact that Wyatt Hendrickson's parents are both chiropractors in Newton and were also in attendance this past weekend. If you don't already know, Wyatt is Kansas wrestler that graduated from the Air Force Academy before transferring to Oklahoma State where he was the Division I national champion at heavyweight. He defeated an Olympic gold medalist to win in what is one of the greatest college wrestling matches in history and had the greatest college season of any athlete in any sport last season (in my opinion). After meeting Wyatt's parents, they were kind enough to give me an autographed photo from him, because they "have tons of them back at the house". So yeah, I would say I had a pretty good weekend!

Did you know that extra weight can also affect your hands and wrists? 🖐️

A recent study found that people with a higher body mass index (BMI over 30) were typically diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger about 6 years earlier than those with a healthy BMI.

Other things that sped up the onset of these conditions included smoking and type 1 diabetes.

This suggests inflammation and metabolic stress may manifest as pain, numbness, or hand stiffness earlier than expected.

The good news is that taking steps to manage weight and improve movement can reduce stress on your hands and wrists. 👍
