1.3 million pounds of food. 40+ pantries. One community.

Every year, our Food Recovery Program rescues unsold food and gets it directly into the hands of people who need it most — turning excess into access for neighbors across our community. All made possible through the power of cross-agency partnership and a shared commitment to equity.

No food wasted. No neighbor hungry.

Food is Medicine, St. Patrick’s Day edition: Many people in our county are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day today with parade and celebration.

It’s the perfect day and the perfect weather to try Colcannon — the beloved Irish classic of creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed kale (or cabbage). It’s more than comfort food. It’s a reminder that food is medicine.

Here’s why this humble dish earns a place at your table:

🥔 Potatoes are rich in potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin B6 — nutrients that support nerve function, immune health, and energy metabolism. They’re also a great source of resistant starch, which feeds beneficial gut bacteria and helps regulate blood sugar.

🥬 Kale & cabbage are cruciferous powerhouses packed with anti-inflammatory compounds, vitamin K (essential for bone health), and fiber that supports digestion and gut integrity — areas that matter deeply for those managing chronic illness.

Together, they make a warming, whole-food meal that’s as kind to your body as it is delicious. If you wish, serve with a side of corned beef, Irish bacon, beef sausage, or any other protein you have on hand.

Here’s to a little nourishment and magic in your bowl. 🍀

What does a career in public service look like? Our Executive Director Julian Palmer has spent decades answering that question — leading and serving across multiple nonprofit organizations to create lasting community impact.

This week, he brought that wealth of experience to the next generation of public servants at St. Thomas Aquinas College, sharing insights with students who are just beginning their journey.

Grateful to represent TOUCH along with: STAC MPA Program Director Jamin Sewell; Ivon Anaya of Center for Safety & Change; and Stephen Papas of Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland. Together, we’re inspiring the leaders of tomorrow.

Fresh groceries. Real choices. Free of charge. 💚

Whether our clients come in to shop or receive a delivery at home, they get to decide what’s on their table. For people living with HIV and chronic illness, that kind of agency can be life-changing.

Food is medicine — and everyone deserves to choose their own.

✈️ Traveling with HIV or other chronic illness ? A little prep goes a long way!

→ Make sure you have enough medication to last your entire trip — coordinate with your provider.
→ Pack your prevention essentials like condoms and Doxy PEP to stay protected on the go
→ Wash hands frequently with soap and water, or use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol when soap isn’t available

If traveling internationally, bring a copy of your prescription in case you are questioned at customs or need emergency prescriptions at a pharmacy.

With simple planning ahead, you can keep your health on track and enjoy every mile of your journey!

Fighting hunger. Supporting health. Building community. 💚

Every week, we stand beside people living with chronic illness by providing free groceries, nutrition guidance, and compassionate counseling—because access to healthy food is essential to healing.

Through our mass food distributions and community programs, we’re also improving public health by helping families across our community put nourishing meals on the table.

No one should have to choose between their health and their next meal. Together, we’re changing that. It’s time. 🥦🍎

✨ Join us in the fight against hunger and for healthier lives.

Excess food doesn’t have to go to waste — it just needs the right hands to move it.

We’re partnering with other nonprofits across Rockland County like BRIDGES Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland and Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland to rescue, redirect, and distribute food over 40 Rockland food pantries, so it gets to the families who need it most. Together, we turn excess into access. 🍎🤝

Excess Into Access ♻️

This week’s impact: over 25,000 lbs of perfectly good surplus food rescued from going to waste! 🍞

Our Rockland Community Against Hunger food rescue team of drivers from .ny, BRIDGES Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland and Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland redirect surplus from 15 local retailers to over 20 food pantries weekly. That’s equivalent to thousands of meals created from what would have been landfill waste, preventing tons of CO2 emissions.

Together, we’re turning excess into access!
