Ohio: our plants have a serious problem and they need our voices right now.
Ohio Senate Bill 385 (SB 385) could make something as simple as recommending chamomile tea to a friend before bedtime a felony. Yes, really.
Read that again.
As written, SB 385 doesn’t just target professionals, it reaches into everyday life. It touches conversations between friends, family traditions, and the simple, time-honored ways people care for one another. Herbal knowledge, passed down for generations and through cultures, could suddenly be treated like a serious crime.
The language of Ohio SB 385 is so broad, it leaves too much room for misinterpretation and overreach. It could criminalize your grandmother’s remedies. Your neighbor’s herbal garden. The tea you drink to unwind at night.
As proposed in Ohio SB 385, there would be no grandfathering for current traditional herbalists and naturopaths.
And right now, there is only a small window of opportunity to speak up.
The Ohio Health Committee meets Wednesday, April 15.
Before then, they need to hear from as many people as possible who actually live here-people who understand that plants, traditional remedies, and community care are not something to be feared or punished.
Call the members of the Ohio State Senate Health Committee.
Send an email.
Kindly ask them NOT to pass Ohio Senate Bill 385.
Because once something like this is passed as law, it becomes much harder to undo.
Let’s make our voices heard-clearly, respectfully, and in numbers they have to acknowledge.
Share this. Talk about it. Act today.
