Sue Ann Cushing Miller, 88 of Connersville passed into the arms of Jesus on October 2, 2025.

She was born to Jesse and Dorothy Cushing on November 27, 1936 in Cambridge City, Indiana. She married Lucius Thedore Miller on January 22, 1955; he predeceased her on April 23, 2019.

She is survived by sons, Roger (Debbie) Miller, of Connersville, Indiana and Len (Jantee) Miller of Khon Kaen Thailand; grandchildren, Stephanie Eckerle, Brenton Miller and Teri Whitataker; great grandchildren, Harrison, Ava, Graham, Simon, Livian Miller, Aiden and Alyssa Eckerle, Carter and Addelynn Miller and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, David Cushing and Jerald Cushing; grandson, Brian Miller; great grandson, Landen Miller and great granddaughter, Lily Ann Miller.

Sue began working at Conwell Shoes in 1967 and then at Fayette Bank (US Bank), where she had a career as a teller for 26 years.

Sue enjoyed many things, including spending time with her family and friends, camping, playing games, jig saw puzzles, cooking for family and friends and making peanut brittle. Sue was an avid bowler. She and Lucius enjoyed traveling; they travels as far as Alaska and Germany.

Sue was a year member of Eastern Star, where she filled many leadership roles over those years donating her time and energy to improving the lives of people in her community. She is a member of Connersville Baptist Temple.

Visitation for Sue will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W. 8th St., Connersville, Indiana 47331. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Ferriera officiating. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery.

James Michael “Mike” Derenski, 58 of Cedar Grove, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025. He was born on May 2, 1967 in Connersville to Donald Derenski and Truie Goodman Derenski.

Mike was a true jack of all trades; he could fix, build or figure out just about anything. You could often find him with his guitar in his hands; music was one of the many things that made him happy. If it had a motor or wheels, he loved it. He was happiest when he was tinkering, turning or taking something for a spin, whether that was a truck, car or dirt bike. Mike was an adrenaline ju**ie at heart; he lived for the fast lane. Above all, Mike was a devoted father and a proud Papaw. His grandchildren were his world and they made his days brighter and fuller. He loved nothing more than spending his days with them, teaching them and watching them grow. His laughter, stories and steady hands will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mike is survived by his children, Atasha Derenski, Josh Derenski, Liam Derenski and Jared Moore; his grandchildren, Jasmyn, Jorden, Legend, Willow and one on the way, Atreus; his brothers, Dave Derenski, Danny Derenski and Scott Derenski; his girlfriend, Dee; the mother of his children, Paula Derenski; and his best friend, Phillip.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald Derenski Jr.

John Robert Cooksey, of Connersville entered the gates of heaven on Monday September 29, 2025 at the age of 90. He was born on June 9, 1935 in Dublin, Indiana the son of the late Robert T. Cooksey and Dorothy E. Lednum Cooksey.

On September 28, 2012, he married the former Sue Smith in Connersville. They celebrated 13 years of marriage prior to his passing. Together they worshiped at Community Gospel Church.

After graduating from Lincoln High School, John enlisted in the United States Army. John later went to work in the manufactory industry where he was employed by H.H. Robertson for 18 years, McAllister Caterpillar for 5 years, and CRST Trucking until his retirement. After his retirement John worked as security for J&J Packing in Brookville until his health no longer permitted.

John was a devoted man of God that loved his family with his whole heart. He enjoyed the fellowship of playing bingo with his friends at the senior center. He would get lost in a crossword puzzle book for hours, and he never missed a Western if it was on TV. John’s most prized possession was his grandbabies, great-grandbabies, and great-great-grandbabies. John will be dearly missed by his beloved family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, his children; Christopher (Kimberly) Cooksey, Dixie (Richard Lee) Cooksey-Hendrickson, Sherry (JR) Mullins, Marilyn (Mark) Pollitt, Brenda (Charles) Gradeless, Lisa (Jim) Callahan, Angel Belt, Denver (Janet) Belt, Elvis (Lisa) Belt, and Andy Belt. His love and memories will live on forever in his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings David Cooksey and Mary Lou Cooksey.

Gerald “Red” Gordon Hoppes passed away on September 26, 2025 with his family by his side at the age of 94. He was born on February 4, 1931 in Connersville, IN and is the son of the late Walter M. and Aubrey Hoppes.

Gerald was a devoted husband to Christene Hoppes who he married on August 1, 1970 in Harrison, Ohio. They shared nearly 52 years of marriage together before she passed away on March 4, 2022. Gerald graduated in 1950 from Alquina High School. Gerald was not a stranger to hard work. He was employed at Trans Ash for 23 years as a heavy equipment operator as well as the Union County Highway Garage and Whitewater State Park. In addition to his regular full time job, he owned and operated Hoppes Insulation for more than 20 years with his wife and children by his side.

Gerald, also known as Uncle Red, will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to his family and friends. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, Euchre, farming, c**n hunting, and watching IU basketball. Gerald was known for having a sweet tooth, especially sweets given to him by his family.

Gerald is survived by his daughters, Bev Jones and Becky (Kevin Sizemore) Hoppes; son, Rodney (Lisa) Hoppes; step-son, Larry (Judy) Baker; step-daughters, Patricia Benson, Sheila Childers, Beverly Hollowell, Alma Baker, Tina Redding, Kim (Ron Rose) Eyler; and sister, Shirley (Maurice) Powell; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Gerald was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Hoppes; sisters, Marjorie (Robert) Stevens and Carmilea “Bo” (Jerry) Antrim.

Tina Annette Goodnight, 65, of Connersville passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. She was born on October 4, 1959 in Troy, Ohio to Lowell V. Moody and Jeanette Smith Moody.

Tina was a member of Reflections Church of Nazarene.

Tina retired from DCS in Rushville after 29 years.

Tina found joy in crocheting and creating with her hands. She enjoyed watching TV, especially Little House on the Prairie and loved putting puzzles together. Her passion was collecting geodes, especially amethysts. Baking was another way she shared her love, especially through her chocolate chip cookies, baked beans, potato salad and deviled eggs. She also enjoyed traveling to different places; one of her favorite memories was traveling with her mother on a cruise before she passed away. Above all, family was the center of her life. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones.

Tina is survived by her daughter, Amanda Bonner; a son, Benjamin Goodnight (Vicki Barrow); her grandchildren, Payton Ramey (Kayla Willard), Alexis Ramey (Austin Gard) and Brooklyn Bonner (Jakob Hyatt); great grandchildren, Adalyne Gard and Jacelynn Ramey and Adelynn Willard; her brothers and sisters, Rodney (Angie) Moody, Mark Moody (Teresa Rose), Teresa (Deron) Price and Kimberly (Shaun) Murphy; and many nieces and nephews.

Tina was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell V. Moody and Jeanette Moody.

Friends and family may visit on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 12:00 until 2:00 pm at Reflections Church of Nazarene, 296 S. Co. Rd. 300 W., Connersville. Edith A Hammond, 85 of Centerville, Indiana went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. She was born on April 7, 1940 in New Lisbon, Indiana to Charles Rhoades and Pauline Helen Ramey Rhoades.
Edith was a proud Centerville High School alumnus, class of 1958. On January 21, 1984 she married Elmer Hammond in Kerrville, Tennessee. They were able to spend 41 years together before his passing on September 14, 2021.
She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church. She enjoyed teaching children about Jesus through songs & stories of books in the Bible. She enjoyed fellowship through Bible studies and especially enjoyed gospel music, often singing along, while her husband played. Together they enjoyed leisure time traveling, or fishing with grandchildren, who share fond memories tagging along. Edith had an eye for spotting antiques and enjoyed finding pieces to treasure, or gift to those close to her.
Her legacy surviving: known as “Mom” to her children; Mark (Hilda) Earles, Kenny Earles, Charlene Sturgeon, Joyce (Michael) Louden, Betty Earles. Known as “Edie” to Becky Hammond, Craig Hammond, and Mike Six; affectionately ”Grandma Pucker” to grandchildren Brandt (Misty), Jarod, Danielle (Jon), Ruthie, Seth, Meredith, Megan (Patrick), Kacy (EJ), Kody, Krystal Jeremy), Ky, Samantha (Thomas), Brittany (CJ), Jessica, Cheryl, Ricky, Patrick (Heather),

Cheryl Ann Hubbard, 73 of Liberty passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. She was born on February 14, 1952 in Batesville to Charles Shepler and Lucille Gant Shepler.

In 1971, she married Ronald Hubbard in Liberty at Church of Christ. They were able to spend 23 years together before his passing in 1994,

Cheryl worked at Park Manor nursing home in Liberty for several years.

Cheryl enjoyed playing cards with her friends at Southview. Dancing was one of her favorite pastimes. She cherished time spent with her family and friends, making memories in every season of life. A true love of nature, she found peace in the outdoors, especially watching the birds. She also enjoyed the hunt for treasures while thrift shopping. Cheryl will be remembered for the love she shared with everyone around her.

Cheryl is survived by her daughters, Misty Rodefer and Rhonda (Keith) Reece; her bonus daughter, Amanda Nelson; her grandchildren, Faith Rodefer, Brittany (James) Nartker and Wyatt (Ashley) Reece; her great grandchild, Marlow Reece; a step grandchild, Logan Nartker; her bonus grandchildren, Jadyn and Brandon Jr. Nelson; her brothers, Neil (Bev) Shepler, Brent (June) Shepler and Gary (Sue) Shepler; and her special friends, Carzell Denton and Linda Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

Linda L. Brookbank, 77 of Liberty passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. She was born on January 12, 1948 in Hamilton, Ohio to Walter Golden Anders and Sallie Mae Hammons Anders.

Linda was a faithful member of Liberty Church of Christ.

On October 4, 1980 she married Brian Brookbank in Oxford, Ohio.

Linda attended Hanover Schools and went to Talawanda High School where she was a 1966 graduate. After high school she went to a business school for 2 years.

Linda began her working career at General Telephone, where she worked for 27 years. After she retired from GTE, she then went onto work at Union County Middle School in the computer lab for 2 years. She wasn’t done working yet after the middle school, she finished out her working career at Miami University for 16 years where she worked with computers there.

After retiring she became very busy with her church, being a 4H leader, being involved in the Home Economics Club in Liberty, the historical society, a leader of Farm Bureau and the most important job was helping her husband on the farm. Linda was a dedicated woman who gave 110% to every job and organization she was a part of. She left a long lasting impact on all those who her life had touched.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Brian; her children, Christine (Terry) Leak, Duane (Tabitha) Brookbank , Tim Brookbank and Jonathan (Brittany) Brookbank; her 12 grandchildren and her brother, Wayne (Peggy) Anders.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Aaron Anders.

The Brookbank family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hoke and the staff at Kettering Health in Fort Hamilton for their exceptional care, kindness and support during this time.

Jerry Leo Drew left this world on September 6th, 2025, at the age of 73. He was born in Connersville, Indiana, on December 11, 1951, the son of John D Drew and Louella Mae (Hamilton) Drew.

Jerry was a hard worker, having worked several jobs. He retired from J and J packaging after 20 years of service. Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed going out and hunting with his lifelong best friend David Isaacs and enjoyed fishing with his children. He also enjoyed listening to his country music and truly enjoyed listening to gospel music. After he retired enjoyed spending time with his family playing Euchre.

Jerry is survived by his children, Amy Jo Drew Short (Connersville), his stepdaughter Chastity Sloan (Cambridge City), Jerry Drew (Connersville), and David Drew (Connersville). He is also survived by his siblings, Virginia Griffin, Mary Durham, Jimmy Drew all of Connersville, two sisters Carol Hultberg and Bonnie Nistler of Minnesota, many grandchildren and two great grandchildren, as well as lots of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews

He is proceeded in death by his son Michael Drew, his parents John and Louella Drew, siblings, Phyllis Meeks, Robert Drew, John Drew, Sharon Bauer, and Ethel Meadows.

Jerry will be truly missed by his family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas W. Plemons, he was carried home on September 8, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Our family and friends find comfort knowing that he is now in peace and with his parents and family members who have gone before him. While we will miss him, his life was a party to all that knew him. We are grateful for all the memories, laughter and loved he shared with us.

Thomas W. Plemons was born on October 23, 1960 in Richmond, Indiana. He is the son of Chester Plemons and Ozella Plemons Hensley.

Thomas retired from Gradex as a heavy equipment operator following a motorcycle accident. After retiring, you could often find Tommy fishing on his boat for walleye with anyone that wanted to go along with him. He also loved to work on “baby” his 1966 Chevrolet truck and enjoyed blaring his music while riding in his RZR. Tommy loved to sing karaoke and go out for Friday night Euchre and to play pool. Tommy was a loyal friend and would give the shirt off his back to anyone and was the life of EVERY party. Everybody LOVED Tommy! To all his family, friends, baby luvs and Chris……….23 clear.

David Barrett of Connersville began his eternal journey with his Lord and Savior on Sunday evening September 7, 2025, at Caroleton Health Center in Connersville at the age of 70. David was one of twelve children of the late Thomas and Kathleen Gross Barrett.
David proudly served in the U.S. Army in the 3rd Division 64th Regiment as a tank driver while stationed in Germany. He was a member of the AmVets and NRA.
For over 25 years, he was employed at Roots and later worked for three years at NSK. When not working you could find him at his favorite fishing hole or hunting. He loved playing games of all types, including pitching horseshoes, corn hole, or playing card games. He enjoyed playing card games on the weekends with his children and grandchildren.
David’s love and memories will be cherished by his sons, Jeff (Merly) Barrett, Brian Barrett and David E. (Paige) Barrett; brothers, Daniel (Linda) Barrett, Arthur (Janet) Barrett, Thomas (Jennifer) Barrett, Jr., and George Barrett; sisters, Christine Schocke, Lois (Charles) Miller, Norma (Mark) Mast and Linda Loue (Ken) Sanders; sister-in-law, Karen Barrett. He will be in the thoughts of his grandchildren, Chelsea Barrett, Kylie (Steven) Mason, Joshua Barrett, Emerson Barrett, Harper Barrett and August Barrett; bonus grandchildren, Vanessa Ely and Luke Farhar; great grandchildren, Forrest Barrett and Cassian Barrett, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was welcomed into Heaven by his brothers, Henry Barrett and Garry Barrett, an infant sister, Caroline Barrett and a brother-in-law, John Schocke.

Dorothy I. Fleming passed away at Reid Health Richmond on Wednesday September 3, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born on June 18, 1931, in Plum Creek Township, Pennsylvania, the daughter to the late Emery Dale Meyer and Florence M. Altman Meyer.
On June 30, 1951, Dorothy married Robert M. Fleming Sr. Together they were blessed with three children and 50 years of marriage prior to his to his passing on January 30, 2002.
Dorothy worked in the retail industry her entire career, she worked at Daum’s Dairy Mart, Grant’s Department Store, 3D and Big Wheel. Her smile is always what welcomed her customers. Dorothy was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church. She also participated as a leader for the Girl Scouts of America for several years.
During her downtime, Dorothy was an avid gardener and found great joy in the beauty of flowers. She enjoyed watching birds, and reading books from the comfort of her home. Dorothy’s most prized possession was her family, especially her grandchildren. She beamed with pride at the mention of their names. She will be greatly missed.
Dorothy is survived by children; a daughter, Valerie Moore, a son, Robert (Teresa) Fleming Jr, her son-in-law, Ralph Cook, and a sister Sandra (James) Hill. Her memories will be cherished forever by her grandchildren; Marc Koons, Matthew Koons, Lauren Fleming, Allyson Douglas, Tera Fuller, Ashley Tharp, and her great-grandchildren; Taj Fleming, Charley Douglas, Matthew Koons, Morgan Koons, Brandon Connor, and Dylan Connor.
