What does the Rh Factor mean?

Rhesus factor (Rh) is a blood group that contains protein in the surface of red blood cells. That's why blood types are categorized with a positive or a negative blood type. But what does this mean in pregnancy?

If mom is Rh negative and baby is Rh positive it's an incompatibility, it can pose threat to the baby. What happens in these cases is the Rh positive baby's blood gets into moms blood stream, mom's body will not recognize this and will create Rh-antibodies eventually killing the Rh positive blood.

Those Rh-antibodies can then cross the placenta and can destroy baby's blood cells. Which can cause health problems or even death.

What can you do?

Somewhere in your 26-28 weeks of pregnancy, you will receive am immune globulin shot that will prevent your body from make these Rh-antibodies.

If you have formed antibodies before and needed a shot you will most likely be getting a shot for every pregnancy hereon after.

Why is prenatal care important?

Prenatal care can help keep you and your baby healthy. Studies shows that babies are 5x more likely to die if the mom did not receive prenatal care.

It is important to see your provider when you get pregnant. Each prenatal visit can ensure you and your babies health, they will check to see how your baby is doing throughout your pregnancy journey and if there is a problem, early detection or early action will help you and baby.

Each prenatal visit they will check your blood pressure and your weight (even though we know it's not the right numbers 😅). Your first prenatal visit will probably be the longest because of all the information and tests they need to gather from you. Like family health history and blood work.

The first 28 weeks of your pregnancy visits will be monthly, it will consist of checking fetal heart rate, your blood type, your Rh factor, papsmear, complete physical exam, gestational diabetes test (where you drink basically a flat soda) Of course, find out baby's gender which is the most exciting part! They could also offer genetic testing.

The later prenatal visits from 28 weeks to 36 weeks, visits are every 2 weeks. They'll measure your belly to see if baby's growth. Checking fetal heart rate, checking to see if you're swollen in any areas.

36 weeks to birth you will have a check up every week. This would be a good time to give your provider your birth plan. They might be doing more ultrasounds to check baby's position.

Each prenatal visit is important for the reason that your provider will help guide you to a healthy pregnancy.

Good Morning Beautiful People!

There has been a lot of transitioning happening in my life lately so, let me fill you in!

First, I apologize I couldn't do another Dancing for Birth class in Iowa. We can do an online class instead if anyone is interested!

Second, (which probably should be first) I MOVED! Yes, With high hopes of self-growth, my family and I moved to Texas. We moved north of Houston. I know, it's far from Iowa but so far, the move has been great except for the crazy Texas driving. We are adjusting well and we are loving it here! I feel like I fit in because I love saying "Y'all!"

Third, I AM NOW A CERTIFIED DANCING FOR BIRTH INSTRUCTOR!
I am now licensed to teach! And because of modern technology, I can teach you, wherever you may be! Since moving to Texas we have had a lot of adjusting to do and settling in so I've put my classes on hold. But I've been contemplating about in-person classes and online classes! So, I will be doing Dancing for Birth classes starting in October! If you are interested in an online class please message me so we can set up a class together. But, watch out for my in-person class announcements!

Lastly, Thank you for all the love and support y'all have shown me! I have been getting messages about how helpful and informational my blog is. I'm sorry I've been MIA but now, It feels good to be back!

Much love,
Camille!
