National Parents' Day honors all parents and parental figures in July. No matter where our parents may be, this day serves to celebrate their important role in our lives.
In May we celebrated mothers, and in June we celebrated fathers. It follows that in July we can bring all our parents together and show them some appreciation all at once.
Parents play a vital role in the lives of children. From our birth, parents protect, teach, provide, and serve as role models. As part of a family, we look to them for guidance. We mirror their behavior and learn to be a core part of our communities. Throughout our lives, our parents lead us to be independent thinking individuals. As many of us know, those efforts can be challenging. The world is changing as quickly as they grow. Often the sleepless nights and worry seem endless. Today, we especially focus and we honor all parents who do everything to raise and protect their children.

The summer heat is still here and we need to make sure we are taking care of ourselves and everyone around us… let’s make sure we keep following these easy tips to stay hydrated and protected from the heat. Let’s take care of each other.
Wear Appropriate Clothing:
Choose lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, wide-brim hats, and sunglasses. Many brands have offer UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) apparel for added sun protection.
Stay Cool Indoors:
Stay in an air-conditioned place as much as possible. Even a few hours spent in air conditioning can help your body stay cooler when you go back into the heat. Taking a cool shower or bath or moving to an air-conditioned place is a much better way to cool off.
Wear Sunscreen:
Sunburn affects your body's ability to cool down and can make you dehydrated. If you must go outdoors, protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and by putting on sunscreen of 30 SPF (Sun Protection Factor) or higher 30 minutes prior to going out. Continue to reapply it according to the package directions.
Drink Plenty of Fluids:
Drink more fluids, specifically water, regardless of how active you are. Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink. However, be sure to consult with your physician how much water you should consume daily, especially during summer months. Stay away from very sugary or alcoholic drinks-these actually cause you to lose more body fluid and become dehydrated sooner.
Updates and Buddies:
Check your local news for extreme heat or UV alerts and safety tips. When working in the heat, be sure to have someone with you at all times. Monitor each other for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Take Your Text Messages to the Next Level on World Emoji Day! 🥳🎉
On July 17, celebrate the fun texting phenomenon that is emojis! By definition, an emoji is “a small digital image or icon used to express an idea or emotion.” Designer Shigetaka Kurita is considered to be the founding father of today’s emojis. Fun Fact: The word “emoji” is a blend of two Japanese words: picture and letter. With emojis, you can add a layer of self-expression and depth to your text messages.
Here are several popular ones to try and incorporate: 🔥
This emoji is typically not used for something physically hot, but rather to indicate that something is amazing or trending.

The volunteer artist workshop event last Tuesday was great! 🔥
The meaning of raised hands can be ambiguous, but is often indicative of praise or agreement about the topic. 🙌
Example of how to use:
I agree, the movie night with the family is a great idea for next weekend! 🙌
This emoji is to show intense feelings of extreme sadness or overwhelming joy/happiness. 😭

Fun ‘Holidays’! On the second Friday in July, we recognize an American favorite known as the French fry on National French Fry Day! French fries, also known as chips, fries, finger chips, or French-fried potatoes, are batons of deep-fried potatoes. No matter what we call them, they’re common fixtures at fast-food restaurants and are loved by all ages! What’s your favorite place to get your fries? do you dip? Whats your go to? 🍟

Maintaining adequate hydration is an essential component of health at every stage of life, yet can become more challenging as we grow older. For seniors, proper hydration has been associated with fewer falls, less constipation, better recoveries in orthopedic patients, reduced risk of bladder cancer in men and lower rates of fatal heart disease. Getting enough water in your body can prevent you from becoming dehydrated.
Signs of dehydration include: Fatigue, Dry mouth or lips, Cramps, Headaches, dizziness, concentration. Please let’s take care of ourselves. Invest in a refillable water bottle or insulated cup to keep your water cool and stay refreshed. Your health is your wealth.

World Day of Music, observed on June 21, celebrates the universal language of music. Originating in France in 1982 as Fête de la Musique, this day has grown into a worldwide sensation, embracing the diverse musical traditions of cultures around the globe.
Musicians come together from various backgrounds, generations, and cultures, and showcase their talents with numerous songs and musical genres. World Day of Music also encourages innovation, experimentation, and creativity in music-making. Need ideas on how to celebrate?
Here are a few to spark musical moments:
Live Performances: Attend a live performance from a volunteer musician, or at a local music event near you. Go see an artist you haven't seen or heard of before to broaden your musical horizons.
Music-themed Movies:
Enjoy a musical movie every afternoon for a week!
Include recent favorites, like Sing or Chicago, or classics like Mary Poppins, Singing in the Rain, or The Wizard of Oz. It might even turn into a fun sing-along!
Music Trivia Night:
Organize a music trivia night featuring questions about famous bands and musicians throughout history.
Group Playlist:
Ask friends and family of all generations to each add one to two of their favorite songs to a playlist on your phone or tablet.
Enjoy the variety of tunes and have fun discovering new songs and artists.
Intergenerational Music Activities:
Did you play a musical instrument in your youth? Do you know how to read music? Share this talent with your grandchildren or local youth groups. Show them how to play scales, a simple song, or how to read sheet music.
