With Houston’s record-setting population growth, the national nursing shortage has become a pressing local issue.

“At HCA Houston Healthcare, we are improving systems of care by advancing the future of nursing, right here in our city,” said Michelle Bookout, DNP, chief nursing executive for HCA Houston Healthcare. “This includes being proactive in addressing the growing nursing shortage by launching formal education programs to equip existing and future nurses with the skills they need to thrive in today’s dynamic healthcare landscape.”

Attracting nurses requires more than filling vacancies—it means creating an environment where they can grow and have influence.

"Most men don't think they can develop breast cancer," Dr. Mazloom notes. "So, when they get a nodule on their breast or start having signs that can be attributed to breast cancer, like ni**le discharge, they ignore it."

We’re joining in on the fun at , bringing neighbors, first responders, and local organizations together to celebrate community, safety and connection. Our trauma and stroke team were present and excited to give out helmets to keep kids safe and teach the importance of bicycle safety. We also partnered with the Kailee Mills Foundation, which is a non-profit organization spreading the word and awareness about seatbelt safety and protecting everyone on the road.

It was a night full of smiles, conversations, and reminder that strong communities look out for each other because from helmets to seatbelts, every bit of safety counts!

screening looks different at every age. Experts recommend that you start talking with your doctor about your personal risk of breast cancer as early as age 25. Depending on your family history or other factors, you may qualify for genetic counseling, earlier screening or both.

If you have a higher risk of breast cancer, screening may begin as early as age 30, or 10 years before the age a close relative was diagnosed. Because each person’s health needs are unique, it’s important to talk with your doctor about a personalized approach to screening.

Organizations that set medical screening guidelines now universally recommend starting mammogram screening at age 40 if you have an average risk of breast cancer. Across our broader HCA Healthcare network, caregivers perform approximately 1.5 million mammograms each year, helping patients take proactive steps toward early detection and better outcomes. If it’s time to schedule your next mammogram visit https://bit.ly/46ZWbT4.
