A safer environment for staff and inmates is always the goal, and it’s great to see that impact firsthand.
On September 14, 2025, newly installed body scanners in MCSO jail facilities proved their effectiveness when a concealed firearm was detected on an inmate. Despite passing through two prior manual searches conducted before arriving at ITR, the weapon went unnoticed until the body scanner revealed it. This discovery underscores the scanners’ vital role in strengthening security and ensuring the safety of both staff and inmates.
“The success of the body scanner affirms that the decision to integrate this technology into jail protocols was a wise investment," states Sheriff Sheridan. "By detecting the hidden firearm, the scanner not only prevented a security threat but also reinforced the facility's commitment to proactive, innovative solutions in staff and inmate safety.” The ability to uncover dangerous weapons that could be missed through standard procedures significantly mitigates the risks of contraband entering the facility.
With this technology, MCSO has set a new standard for jail security, proving that the cost of implementing advanced tools is a small price to pay compared to the potential risks of failing to detect and neutralize such threats.
