And Benadryl(diphenhydramine) is most common – there are a lot of different products OTC meds that have this medication in them, need to read the label!
*Nasal spray – Antihistamine - Azelastine (astepro) and Nasal Saline – safe for all ages and no side effects.
*Nasal rinses with saline like Neti pots, NeilMed squeeze bottles.
*Allergy eye drops - Alaway (ketotifen).
*Mucinex DM – combination of guaifenesin and dextromethorphan – thinning of mucus and cough suppression.
*Nyquil - acetaminophen, dextromethorphan HBr, doxylamine succinate and in some formulations, phenylephrine HCl – not recommended for older or younger patients, can increase blood pressure and worsens glaucoma.

**Cetirizine and nasal saline are generally safe in pregnancy, the others should be discussed with your doctor for using while pregnant or breastfeeding. For babies, these medications may not be safe. Consult your provider.
As always, we recommend talking to the pharmacist or your provider before taking any of these over-the-counter medications. And carefully read the label.
