“Communication isn’t just talking—it’s understanding.
At Communiverse®—Connecting Words and People Throughout the Lifespan—we teaches much more including these 3 skills:
1. Perspective-taking—pause to understand, not react
2. Facts vs opinions—don’t confuse truth with interpretation
3. Don’t feed negativity—not everything deserves your energy

Words matter… and so do boundaries.

✨We teach words and tone... but we also teach the thinking behind communication.
✅Perspective-taking
✅Facts vs opinions
✅How to ignore negativity instead of feeding it.

Because real connection takes more than “good words.”

I broke a toe… and stayed regulated. 🦶😮‍💨

Not because I’m unbothered.
Not because it didn’t hurt.

But because self-regulation is a skill—and skills can be practiced in real time.

✨ 3 things that helped:
• Pause the body before the brain
• Use declarative self-talk (statements > questions)
• Shrink the moment to the very next step

You don’t have to regulate the whole problem.
Just this moment.

Calm isn’t a personality trait.
It’s something you can practice, teach, and learn—at any age.

Save this for the next hard moment 🤍

Sometimes the boundaries we need most… are with ourselves. Parenting is hard, and self-talk matters. Speak kindly, set limits, and give yourself the same love you give your kids.

“Look” and “Let’s”: Two Little Words That Build Big Communication Skills

As a speech-language pathologist, I’ve noticed that the words we choose can open doors to connection—especially for neurodivergent individuals learning to communicate in meaningful ways.

Here are 3 key ways to use these simple but powerful cues across all ages 👇
    1.    👀 “Look” invites shared attention
Use “Look” to share focus, not demand it. For example:
👉 “Look, the bubbles popped!” instead of “Look at me.”
This encourages curiosity and joint attention—essential building blocks for conversation.
    2.    🤝 “Let’s” invites collaboration
“Let’s” transforms communication into connection.
👉 “Let’s build together” or “Let’s tell that story again.”
It says, I’m with you. It’s not about compliance—it’s about shared experience.
    3.    💬 Model language that builds relationships
Instead of correcting or quizzing (“What is that?”), narrate, join, and expand:
👉 “You found it!” or “Let’s see what happens next.”
These words invite participation and belonging—no matter the person’s age or communication style.

✨ Small words. Big impact.
At Communiverse®, we’re always helping people connect—one meaningful word at a time

Rose, Thorn & Bud — Supporting Communication Without Questioning

In speech-language therapy, we talk a lot about the power of declarative language instead of constant questioning.

Why?
Because many learners — children and adults — communicate more successfully when we model language, share our own thoughts, and invite connection, rather than quiz them.

Lately I’ve been using a simple conversational routine with my adult clients (inspired by my own grown kids!) that has made a BIG impact:

✨ Rose — the best part of your week
🍂 Thorn — the hardest part of your week
🌱 Bud — something you’re looking forward to

Instead of asking, I might say:

“My rose was taking a walk by the ocean.
My thorn was rushing this morning — whew!
My bud is enjoying a cozy dinner tonight.”

Then I pause, smile, and wait.

No pressure.
No rapid-fire questions.
Just an open space for communication to grow 🌱

When we model, we give the brain language tools.
When we share, we strengthen connection.
When we offer structure, we build confidence.

And slowly… we see blooms. 🌸

Try it with the communicators in your world — of any age.

Communication isn’t a test — it’s a relationship.
Let’s nurture it. 💫
