UAMS - University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has been named by U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-2026 Best Hospitals as "High Performing" in two adult specialties: Cancer and Orthopedics, as well as in seven procedures and conditions. A hospital named as “high performing” in a specialty is ranked within the top 10% of all eligible hospitals for the speciality, in which standards are evaluated for “patients with life-threatening or rare conditions who need a hospital that excels at treating complex, high-risk cases.”

In the Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital at UAMS - University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, orthopaedic hand surgeons, Dr. Mark Tait (left) and Dr. John Bracey (right) and neurosurgeon, Dr. Erika Peterson, serve as co-investigators on the Neural Enabled Prosthesis for Upper Limb Amputees clinical trial. The trial tests an innovative prosthetic hand system developed by ICubedR researchers, which aims to provide a sense of touch, grasp force, and hand opening by sending electrical stimulation pulses to electrodes implanted in nerves of the residual limb. The system uses measurements from sensors in the prosthetic hand to adjust the pulses continuously, enabling sensation as tasks are performed with the prosthesis.
