Every child grows at their own pace, yet the first few years of life are full of remarkable changes worth celebrating. Parents often observe exciting progress, along with occasional questions about what comes next, which is completely normal during early development.

Around 1 year of age, children begin exploring the world in brand new ways. Many start taking first steps, saying familiar words like “mama” or “dada,” and waving “bye bye.” This stage emphasizes safe exploration and bonding through play, connection, and communication.

By 2 years old, independence becomes much more noticeable. Running, climbing, and using short sentences often emerge as toddlers learn to express themselves and begin to understand their own emotions and the feelings of others.

At 3 years old, imagination and social skills rapidly expand. Pretend play becomes more complex, language grows into full sentences, and curiosity drives constant questions about the world. Many children enjoy helping with simple tasks and learning new concepts through everyday experiences.

Every milestone matters, offering valuable insight into a child’s development and opportunities for early detection when extra support is needed. Regular well child visits give our pediatric team the ability to track growth, answer parent questions, and celebrate each new stage of progress.

The Children’s Clinic of Conway and Greenbrier is proud to support families through every step of the journey, from baby steps to big dreams. 💚

Choking can happen quickly, especially in young children. Common risks include whole grapes, hot dogs, popcorn, nuts, hard candies, small toy parts, coins, and button batteries.

A simple rule: If it can fit through a toilet paper tube, it can be a choking hazard.

If you have any concerns about your child’s swallowing, feeding, or safety, our pediatric team is here to answer questions and provide guidance. 💚
