It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Veronica Walters. She touched many lives with kindness and will always be remembered. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers during this time. 🙏
Veronica Walters, age 70, passed peacefully on March 3, 2026, at Grand Strand Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her life partner, Tee King.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Veronica devoted much of her life to advocating for LGBTQ+ equality and understanding across South Carolina. Though soft-spoken, she was a powerful voice for inclusion, education, and compassion during a time when misinformation and negativity toward transgender people were widespread.
Veronica was best known as the founder of T-Time, a support group for transgender people living in and around the Myrtle Beach area. She also served eight years as a commissioner on the Myrtle Beach Human Rights Commission, was a founding member of the Center Project, served for 8 years on the board of Careteam Plus Family Health & Specialty Care, and served more than a decade on the board of SC Equality. Whether advocating for policy changes expanding rights to the LGBTQ+ community or education to those who do not understand, Veronica was always in front of the line. Her most profound impact was when providing compassion and a loving heart to those finding their own way.
Throughout her life, she provided guidance for those who felt lost, comfort for those who felt alone, and education for those willing to learn. To know her was to love her, and she will be deeply missed.
