Our very own, Ellen Rogers, won a gift bag that included a shirt and Chef Karla's cookbook. Thursday was staff appreciation pizza lunch. We love recognizing our team and the special work they do each day. 💞

Global Heat Alert: WHO–WMO Launch Lifesaving Guidance for Workers

As climate change drives more frequent and intense heatwaves, many workers who are regularly exposed to dangerous heat conditions are already feeling the health impacts of rising temperatures. A new joint report by WHO and the World Meteorological Organization highlights that extreme heat is cutting worker productivity by 2-3% for every degree above 20°C and causing serious health impacts such as heatstroke, dehydration, kidney dysfunction and neurological disorders. Increasing heat episodes are also leading to health issues for vulnerable populations in developing countries, such as children, older adults and low-income populations.

The guidance calls for urgent action from governments, employers, and health authorities: developing occupational heat-health policies, raising awareness, focusing on vulnerable populations, engaging stakeholders, and embracing innovative, sustainable solutions.

With 2.4 billion workers already exposed to excessive heat worldwide, protecting them is not just a public health priority but also an economic necessity.

August 25, 2024, is National Faith HIV & AIDS Awareness Day (NFHAAD). NFHAAD is a day to engage faith communities to work together for HIV/AIDS education, prevention, treatment, care, and support, and to reduce and eliminate stigma and discrimination.

Faith communities are encouraged to learn about the status of HIV funding in their state, nationally, and internationally, and take action to sustain and increase HIV prevention, treatment, and care services for all who require them. Faith communities fighting for freedom and fairness together can end HIV-related stigma and discrimination—one day, each year, until there is a cure!
