When most people think of stroke symptoms, they picture the classic signs: facial drooping, arm weakness, or slurred speech. However, some stroke symptoms, particularly in women, can be surprisingly subtle and easily dismissed. Jennifer McCarthy, FNP with CMC Primary Care-Grand Dunes sheds light on these often-overlooked warning signs including those pesky hiccups.
“Obviously, the general symptoms of stroke include sudden weakness of your arm, trouble walking, or trouble talking. Those are the symptoms that everybody experiences – men and women,” McCarthy explains. “But sometimes women experience slighter symptoms like nausea, vomiting, unexplained fatigue, unexplained pain, and they sometimes even get hiccups.”
