Pay attention to what you feel in the pose. If you aren't sure about an uncomfortable sensation, either back off or stop. There is a feeling of discomfort that is leading you towards wellness and one that is leading you towards damage. Part of your role as the student is to discern which is which. Try not to think about the practice like its Simon says where you have to do what you are told. I'll offer different options and another part of your role is to be curious and see what feels right for you - in the body that you are in today. If you get to be a certain age, everyone will have issues here and there that they have to tend to. That is normal. Even if you don't have any physical ailments, we all have varying degrees of natural mobility, different lengths of bones, etc. These differences make it impossible for us all to look the same in any given pose. It's so interesting to choose to honor your body at the detriment of your ego and to notice what feelings arise. These feelings can make you want to leave the practice or to go to any easier practice where you won't be confronted with them. In my opinion, that is where the practice can offer you so much more than what it can do for your body. This practice can you give you insight into the ways that you create your own suffering. There is a lot of suffering out there to notice and it can be hard to tolerate, but the suffering you create is where you have the most agency. The question is, are you ready to see yourself clearly and face what comes up?
