๐ Itโs World Obesity Day! The Obesity Society is celebrating this yearโs theme, Changing Systems, Healthier Lives, which highlights the urgent need to transform global health systems to better support those affected by obesity as a chronic disease.
As Obesity Care Week continues, both individuals and organizations can by recognizing the real-world impact of obesity on families and communities.
๐ค TOS is proud to work collaboratively with leading organizations as part of the International Obesity Collaborative, striving to reshape how obesity is framed and perceived. Through global policy statements, we aim to influence health systems worldwide.
๐ On , TOS draws attention to the Five Principles of Obesity statement by the IOC. We encourage everyone to adopt these key tenets:
It is undeniable that obesity is a complex, chronic disease.
Obesity is driven by powerful underlying biology, not by choice.
The many health effects of excess weight can start early.
Obesity is treatable.
Weight bias, stigma, and discrimination are harmful.
