Please see the comments for the link to this very important conversation especially if you or your loved ones have ever had any of these thoughts:
“Hospice means giving up or letting my loved one die sooner.”
– Some believe hospice speeds up death, when in reality hospice focuses on comfort and dignity, often improving quality of life and sometimes even extending it.
“Hospice will stop all medical care.”
– Families may think hospice means no medications, no doctor visits, and no support, when in fact hospice provides medical, emotional, and spiritual care—often more than what’s available outside hospice.
“Hospice is not for us.”
– There’s a misconception that hospice isn’t culturally sensitive or meant for Black families, sometimes rooted in distrust of the healthcare system. In truth, hospice teams are trained to honor cultural and spiritual traditions, including the strong role of faith and family in the Black community.
