The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. If you or someone you know are experiencing domestic violence, it’s important to remember that there are always resources available to help.

With so much mental health content online, it’s easy to label difficult behavior as a personality disorder—but these diagnoses are far more complex than we think.

Dr. Tracey Marks reminds us that not every challenging relationship or frustrating behavior is tied to a disorder. Sometimes people are struggling, going through hard times, or learning how to regulate their emotions. Understanding this nuance helps us approach others (and ourselves) with more compassion and less judgment.

Before we rush to diagnose, let’s pause and remember: someone having a hard time doesn’t mean they have a personality disorder. Empathy goes a long way.

Want to support victims and survivors’ domestic violence? Try this, not that.

Relationship abuse is no laughing matter. What we do and say on social media matters. Being supportive means being willing to learn, listen, and act with care. How we respond can make all the difference!
