May is Stroke Awareness Month, and knowing the signs could save a life. Strokes happen when blood flow to the brain is blocked or when a blood vessel bursts. Every minute counts.

Remember B.E. F.A.S.T. to spot the warning signs:

🟣 Balance Loss
⚫ Eyesight Changes
🔴 Face drooping
🟡 Arm weakness
🟢 Speech difficulty
🔵 Time to call 9-1-1: If someone shows any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately.

Important: Don't wait to see if symptoms improve. Early treatment can reduce brain damage and improve recovery outcomes.

💖 Early Detection, Lasting Hope: Judy’s Story

Judy had no family history of breast cancer. No symptoms. No reason to worry. But her annual mammogram changed everything.

Thanks to routine screening at Cook Hospital, her cancer was caught early—before it could spread.

Today, she’s cancer-free and urging everyone: “I always go for my regular screenings. I don’t wait. I just tell everyone I meet: It’s a simple thing, and it works.”

We are grateful to Judy for sharing her story, and wish her the very best of continued health.

We are honored to share that the Cook Area Healthcare Auxiliary has donated $71,747 to support Cook Hospital & Care Center in 2026. These funds will help us to maintain and improve the quality of care we're able to provide in our area:

- Funding outings for our Care Center residents
- Dietary equipment upgrades
- Enhancing Care Center resident security by replacing the current WanderGuard system
- Supporting patient wellness and healing with NuStep replacements in our rehab center
