Many people do not realize that families can ask about hospice directly. A referral can come from a physician, hospital, or even from a family member requesting information. Early referrals allow patients and families to receive more support, education, and comfort.

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Hospice Care is grounded in answering this question with compassion and humility. Today, we honor Dr. MLK Jr.’s legacy by continuing to serve patients and families with dignity, comfort, and heartfelt care.

Hospice care is more than nursing visits. Our interdisciplinary team works together to support the whole patient physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Hospice services often include nursing care, social work, chaplain support, medications related to comfort, medical equipment, and 24 hour on-call support for families.

Today, we recognize the vital role pharmacists play in hospice care. Hospice pharmacists work closely with the care team to manage pain, symptoms, and medication safely while minimizing side effects. Their expertise ensures medications are personalized, adjusted appropriately, and focused on comfort and quality of life. We are grateful for their commitment to compassionate patient centered care.

Sunday Supper Day highlights the importance of togetherness and routine especially during challenging times. Shared meals, even when simple, can offer comfort, familiarity, and connection. We recognize that food is about more than nutrition. It is about culture, memories, and moments of normalcy.

Think it’s too early for hospice? But, what if it’s not. What if you could get help for you or your loved one? A common statement we hear from families is, “I wish I had known about hospice sooner.”

Early hospice support can make a meaningful difference. Recognizing decline allows families to access care before a crisis occurs. Hospice focuses on comfort, education, and emotional support so patients and caregivers feel supported every step of the way.

Celebration of Life Week is a time to honor the stories and relationships that shape a person's life. In hospice care, we believe every life deserves to be remembered for more than its final days. This week, we reflect on the legacies left behind, the moments that mattered most, and the importance of honoring each individual with dignity, compassion, and love. Celebrating life helps families heal, remember, and find comfort while honoring what made their loved one uniquely who they were.
