Steadfast Equine Support Certified Equine Massage Therapist. Your guide to finding balance in the body and mind of your equine Hailey Ekwall here. Horses give us SO much.

Welcome to my page, thanks for being here! I have been passionate about horses my entire life. All aspects of my life have involved them in some capacity. I grew up competing and also around Equine Therapy Programs where I volunteered frequently and my love for these magnificent animals grew even more. I went off to college and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Speech Language Pathology in hopes of pr

oviding Speech Therapy with the involvement of hippotherapy (therapy utilizing equines). Through that journey, I saw how much heart and effort horses give to those therapy programs, and asked myself "Who's providing care for the horses"? I started looking into ways I could provide care and found the world of equine massage. Since then, I've been devoting my time and focus on learning massage techniques, such as trigger point and fascia release, completing licensing programs and still pursuing continued education. I'd be honored for the opportunity to provide care for your horse, whether that is general maintenance or rehabilitation. I look forward to working with you soon!

Hip imbalances can be hard to spot with the naked eye but these sort of pictures make you realize just how much they can show up and impact the body.

TRAPEZIUS MUSCLE TRANSFORMATION ✨

The trapezius muscle is very often underdeveloped or atrophied due to improper saddle fit, incorrect muscle movement, under/over developed surrounding muscles, or all of the above.

The trapezius muscle is a non weight bearing muscle. If the saddle's gullet size or angle is incorrect and puts too much weight on this area, it will atrophy or lose tone due to incorrect movement.

If your horse has this, there is hope for change! With correct saddle fit, massage, and specific exercises, it can be corrected!

Message me if your horse needs help with this!

WEDNESDAY WELLNESS TIP

⁉️DID YOU KNOW⁉️

▪️It’s recommended that horses NEVER go more than 4 hours without long stem forage passing through their guts???

•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•

🙌🏻FACTS🙌🏻

❗️In “natural” equine environment horses are seen grazing at least 18hrs/day

❗️it’s proven that after 6hrs without forage, stomach lining becomes irritated-after 18hrs bleeding lesions{ulcers} form.

•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•

👉🏼MEAL FEEDING has become common practice among horse owners and traditional boarding facilities but THINK ABOUT THIS:

❗️If PM feeding is around 6pm and hay is gone by 8/9pm-then AM feeding isn’t until around 6am…

❗️If irritation is known to happen after 6 hours without forage and in this VERY COMMON scenario almost 9hrs later…your horse eats hay with and irritated gut(causing further irritation).

❗️Think about this happening twice a day for long periods of time🤔sounds pretty awful, right?!

❗️This will absolutely create “pain behaviors” because of the stress it causes, the rest of the body’s systems will compensate-including the muscular system.

•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•▪️•

🤷🏼‍♀️BUT APRIL-“I’m at a boarding barn and they have strict policies for feeding/only “include” so much hay…

❌any facility restricting your horse from eating is a problem that needs addressed.

❌pre filling hay bags for barn staff to hang daily IS NOT a tall order to ask.

❌YOU are your horses advocate! Pay for extra hay bag hanging service-I promise it will be more cost effective than ulcer treatments and associated set backs, not to mention how much happy your horses gut will be!!
