Excited to celebrate the 20th World Kidney Day and reflect on how far the field of nephrology has come. For nearly 25 years, nephrology remained relatively stagnant, with limited therapeutic advances to slow kidney disease progression.

Today, we are witnessing a new renaissance in nephrology. The emergence of several novel kidney-protective medications is transforming how we care for patients with chronic kidney disease. These therapies hold tremendous promise in slowing progression, preserving kidney function, and improving patient outcomes.
