🌸 Spring is just round the corner here are some safety tips for your furry loved ones!🐢🐱

1. Fleas, Ticks, and Parasites

As temperatures rise, parasites become much more active.

Precautions:
β€’ Keep pets on year-round flea and tick prevention
β€’ Check pets after walks, hikes, or yard play
β€’ Watch for excessive scratching, hair loss, or skin irritation
β€’ Talk to your veterinarian about heartworm prevention, which is spread by mosquitoes

2. Seasonal Allergies

Just like people, pets can develop allergies to pollen, grasses, and mold.

Signs of allergies:
β€’ Excessive licking of paws
β€’ Ear infections or head shaking
β€’ Itchy skin or rubbing on furniture
β€’ Red or watery eyes

What helps:
β€’ Wipe paws after walks
β€’ Bathe pets regularly to remove pollen
β€’ Speak with your vet about allergy medications if symptoms persist

3. Toxic Plants and Flowers

Many popular spring plants are toxic to pets.

Common dangerous plants include:
β€’ Lilies (extremely toxic to cats)
β€’ Tulips
β€’ Daffodils
β€’ Azaleas
β€’ Sago palms

Even small amounts can cause vomiting, diarrhea, organ damage, or worse. Keep pets away from garden beds and bouquets.

4. Lawn Chemicals and Fertilizers

Spring yard care often involves chemicals that can irritate pets.

Risks include:
β€’ Fertilizers
β€’ W**d killers
β€’ Insecticides
β€’ Mulch products

Precautions:
β€’ Keep pets indoors while chemicals are applied
β€’ Follow drying times before letting pets back outside
β€’ Wipe paws after yard exposure

5. Warmer Temperatures

Spring temperatures can rise quickly in Florida.

Remember:
β€’ Never leave pets in cars
β€’ Make sure pets have shade and fresh water when outside
β€’ Avoid midday walks on hot pavement

6. Wildlife and Outdoor Hazards

Spring brings increased wildlife activity.

Pets may encounter:
β€’ Frogs and toads
β€’ Snakes
β€’ Iguanas
β€’ Bees and wasps

Discourage pets from chasing wildlife and monitor them closely outdoors.

7. Easter and Holiday Hazards

Spring holidays also introduce risks.

Watch for:
β€’ Chocolate and candy
β€’ Xylitol (found in sugar-free gum and sweets)
β€’ Easter grass or plastic decorations
β€’ Lilies in Easter bouquets

βœ… Spring is a wonderful time to enjoy the outdoors with your fur baby β€” just keep a watchful eye.

If you ever have concerns about your furry family member our team is here to help.
