With show season starting here are some great tips!!!

Anytime you show, itโ€™s crucial to think about what youโ€™ll do and how youโ€™ll do it ahead of your class, no matter the event. Here are my six tips for your preparation process anytime you compete in ranch riding, thanks to Ride TV coach Bud Lyon.

"The patterns themselves are just guidelines. Ranch riding patterns have more room for ex*****on than something stricter like a reining pattern. You donโ€™t have to perform it exactly as it says on the page. I advise paying more attention to the words describing the pattern than the drawing itself."

"While your horse settles in, head to the arena where youโ€™ll show. With your pattern in mind, walk the arena to get a feel for where the elements will play out and how they best flow together."

"Identify sponsor banners, panel connections, marks on the arena wall, and more that can indicate where to transition from one maneuver to the next. If youโ€™re outside, find trees, shrubs, an outbuilding that can help remind you when to speed up, slow down, circle, and more."

"Saddle up your horse, and head to the pen where youโ€™ll show. Walk and trot pieces of the pattern to get a feel for where elements will fall, where you can take your time when you might need to be quicker in your transitions, and how youโ€™ll approach each piece."

"Instead, focus on doing small parts of the pattern. Separate the maneuvers or break the pattern into sections. If you do practice the entire pattern, only do it once or twice. Anything more than that can be problematic because your horse learns whatโ€™s coming and then starts to think ahead of you."

"Our standard of excellence in ranch riding is to complete transitions in two stridesโ€”one stride is even better. Showing this skill to the judges can earn you credit when used correctly. The time you spend riding at home and showing gives you the ability to identify these strengths and capitalize on them."

Saturday - April 26th 9am-4pm

๐Ÿ”ดAre you new to horses?
๐Ÿ”ดDo you have a new horse that you are struggling with?
๐Ÿ”ดDoes your horse have behavioral issues that keep getting worse?
๐Ÿ”ดHave you ever had trouble catching your horse?
๐Ÿ”ดIs your horse hard to load into a trailer?
๐Ÿ”ดIs your horse difficult to bridle?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this clinic is for you! Nathan Wells will cover a variety of topics that are common to many horse owners, beginner to experienced.

Nathan will spend the first part of the day working with you and your horse on the ground. This is not a "ground work" clinic, but the goal is to develop successful habits to help you enjoy your horse more.

The second part of the day will be spent riding in the arena to help you get more comfortable in the saddle.

NOTE: This is not a c**t starting clinic. Your horse needs to be rideable and you need to have ridden the horse you bring to the clinic at least a few times before the day of the clinic.

01/20/2025

Feel free to reach out to Nathan Wells or the ranch if you have any questions. We would love to see you!!

2025 is a good time to start thinking about those goals with your horse. Whether itโ€™s to get into the show pen or just have more of a partnership. Nathan is an amazing coach and has so much knowledge to help you reach them. Come join us this season!
