Yesterday morning the crutch I needed to rid myself of was, as always, a mental/emotional one, but once I decided to let it go I found myself with a new stride.

To start that practice of letting go I took a walk through nature early yesterday morning while it was still dark in order to get to the river for my cold plunge. This spot in the river was not as familiar to me as some of the other spots I go to and there was nobody else with me like there normally is. I had to walk this one alone, through nature, into the forest to get to the river so that I could face my fears and discover more about who I truly am.

You never know when you might come across a bear, or a coyote, or a bobcat or any other number of creatures in the night in upstate NY, but being courageous enough to push through personal limitations is key to finding what is on the other side of fear and discovering the deepest gifts you have.

Always keep climbing.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, states Newton’s third law of motion.

So, after a high reaction from getting to speak with Tony Robbins over the weekend there is bound to be a low.

In order to navigate that low well, it’s important to hear the heart, mind and body in the moment so as to overcome any resistance to them. They know best. So when Hakuna Matata (from The Lion King) comes on and I want to turn it off write away, I pause and listen.

My daughter Anais has been instrumental in increasing my ability to be able to slow down and allow myself to smell the roses, so to speak so that I know that no matter what is happening, all of the goodness is always all around us and within us. Fear that arises is just the body (the subconscious mind) wanting to resist new things because change is unpredictable.

If you’re in a space that seems chaotic or depressed try and give this version of Hakuna Matata a listen. It seems to speak the language of the heart. :) And then you’ll be acting more in accordance with the more recent principles of the newer updated version of physics, quantum physics, which states that there are infinite possibilities and that anything is possible. And when acting in accordance with these principles, going slow somehow just seem to become going fast.

I bumped into someone recently who seemed stuck. I remember when I was struggling with mental illness. It was HARD... In and out of psych units, not knowing what the next "right" thing was to do, feeling like I was trapped.

And that's the funny thing about the mind, you think things need to remain just how they are, that you are only capable of what you've accomplished up till now, that you shouldn't step too far out of bounds.

Well let me share a secret, the only way to get the life you want (if it's different from the one you're currently living) is to do new things and it starts with a choice.

You either believe that or not. Period. And if you don't then you'll stay stuck. Everyone has choices but sometimes they don't want to realize it because the choices seem hard, but once you muster the courage to listen to your heart, your gut, your soul and and take a chance on what you KNOW is right you, you will push fear out of the way and see that the life you've wanted has been there all along.

It largely just boils down to making a new choice. :)

When your actions are guiding your emotions you are operating from the subconscious, your actions (the automatic behaviors) are taking you through life and leading to the same thoughts, that lead to the same feelings that lead again to the same behaviors.

That's how it works.

Want to get out of the rat race that is in your head???

Become mindful of WHAT you are thinking and make a different choice/take a different action. You will get a different result. That's how progress is made and progress is the key to happiness.

The microgreens are grown at the cafe and these little babies pack a healing punch with many times the micronutrient density of their more mature counterparts.

What does that mean?

It means you can eat much less of these and get even more of the power packed nutrient profile or more.

When we become more mindful, we begin eating, moving and feeling differently about ourselves and life. We become more uplifted, better able to guide our energy and more efficient. When we become more mindful, we notice possibilities that we hadn't before, things seem to just fall into place as there is less friction in life.

Struggling with communication or with your level of happiness in general?

Try being more curious about what the other person is saying in a conversation.

Truly listening is a super power and is at the base of any great conversation. Nelson Mandela was a master at this and I've been cultivating this skill for years through my work in yoga in order to be a better teacher and see improved results.

But don't take my word on it, or Nelson's.

FBI Agent Chris Voss states the below quote and goes on to say that it (curiosity) is showing up in more places as (one of) the keys to success and of psychological longevity." He goes on to share that "You can't be in a bad mood if you're genuinely curious." He lastly shares a quote he likes from Shawn Achor, which is "You're 31% smarter in a positive mood".

So, what angry, grumpy thought is holding you back?

Many people are looking for more and trying to do more, be more and have more, but that can feel exhausting if it’s out of sync with who we are at our core.

What if everything you needed was already inside of you and that it was just about bringing that to the surface? What if the best thing to do was to nourish what you already have because that would not only allow you to do, be and have more but contribute to the world in the best way as well?

Of course there is work to do, but the basic raw materials you need are already there, inside of you. You don’t need to be anybody else or get something you don’t already have. It’s about building yourself from where you are already in order to polish up the unearthed gifts you’ve been hiding from the world.

Maybe you’re afraid that there might be a more direct way to get to your goal, but if you go that route you won’t know what to do with yourself when you’re not creating busy work and stressed out all the time.

Maybe you don’t want to be noticed.

Maybe you don’t want the additional responsibility.

Or maybe it seems like living your dream is just that… JUST A DREAM and that it will never come to fruition. (That’s sad and couldn’t be further from the truth)

We all have our own fear of success and/or fear of failure and that’s ok, but letting that get in the way any longer is a disservice to the world.

So how does one actually nourish themselves and take the first step toward doing, being and having more from a place of strength?

Well, not to sound trite or cliche but every great journey begins with the first step.

So… Taking the first step:

Identify the goal
Identify the first step toward that goal
Take that first step.

Then, reflect, rehearse & repeat.

Getting clear on the goal is about meditation, reflection, journaling and such and that holds true for identifying the first step as well, though identifying the first step is more of a best guess at the time. It’s often a gut feeling for me that I’ve learned to trust over time.

Then, in order to actually take the first step I work on things like changing my narrative/story, identifying the type of internal language I use and how to upgrade that. Then it’s largely about just taking action. Just take the first step no matter how bad or awkward or uncomfortable it feels.

Look before you leap, but leap.

Then I approach my “failures” with curiosity and patience in order to learn and use my new perspective to see how I will try it next time.

If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again (in different ways of course :) )

And that’s how I uncover my hidden inner treasure. :)

Everyone has the ability to be present in order to create a deeper connection with their partner, but that’s scary!

In our fast paced, “get it done quickly and move onto the next thing” society, listening can be hard.

But listening is of the utmost importance.

Be in the moment and things will naturally unfold more easily than you could have imagined.

You will find new, more efficient solutions to old problems by slowing down and being present - not trying to just get it done and move onto the next thing like many do.

The real goal here is to be with the person you love, to be vulnerable and allow yourself to be seen.

Less is more here. Take the time to discover WHO YOU ARE and how YOU CAN BE with your partner.

When you begin BEING with your partner, ask yourself one question, “What does she/he need right now?”

Be there with her/him.

That’s presence. That’s the biggest gift you can give anyone.

That is true love - the kind of love the world needs at least a little bit more of. :)
