Axis-C2. Cervical vertebrae 2. Great information from my friends at New Beginnings Chiropractic.
AXIS (C2)
The axis vertebra (C2) is the second bone in the cervical (neck) spine. It sits under the atlas vertebra (C1) and allows for head rotation, acting as a pivot point for C1.
INNERVATION
The axis is a very important vertebra. The nerve roots that exit at this level control the following areas/systems (but not limited to); eyes, optic nerves, auditory nerves, sinuses mastoid bones, tongue, forehead.
EFFECTS
When axis (C2) vertebra is out of alignment, if can have negative effects on the body including (but not limited to); sinus trouble, allergies, visual disturbances, deafness, eye troubles, earaches, fainting spells.
CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT
One goal of the chiropractic adjustment is to free nerve interference, allowing the body to heal and function correctly. This is accomplished by a specific chiropractic adjustment, typically done by hand, to a vertebra that was found to be out of alignment on both x-ray and motion palpation performed by the doctor.
