Today at Griggs County Care Center we made dragonflies.
Not the kind that fly away…
the kind that land right in your heart. And all it took was....
Kraft sticks.
Then-paint everywhere.
Pom poms that absolutely tried to escape.
Glue on all the fingers.
Laughter in the room!
Dragonflies are said to symbolize change, adaptability, light, and living fully in the moment.
They begin life in the water, then one day… they rise.
They transform.
They get wings.
And honestly?
That feels like a pretty good story for a new year.
Because here in Cooperstown, North Dakota, our residents know a thing or two about change.
They’ve lived many seasons.
They’ve adapted more times than most people ever will.
And even now, they still choose color.
They still choose creativity.
They still choose joy.
As we step into a brand-new year, these dragonflies remind us that it's never too late to add color.
It’s never too late to try something new.
It’s never too late to grow wings—right where you are.
Here’s to a year of transformation, light, and moments that make us smile at Griggs County Care Center.

Happy First Day of 2026!
Everything was new today at Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown, ND! !
New fallen snow, new activity calendar, new conversations and new goals, wishes and resolutions were spoken out loud!
Coffee shop hour was a New Years social event.
We served coffee, hot chocolate, apple cider, black cherry wine coolers, beer and honey brandy.
The dietary staff treated us with cherry Jello poke cake with Cool Whip garnish!
And after we were all done we shared aloud our resolutions. Some of them were:
"To be here next year to make another resolution."
"For my kids grandkids and great grands to be healthy and safe!"
One fella said, "To chase Jodi Rae until I catch up to her!" Then he turned and winked!
Another soul said, "I want a better relationship with God and to walk again!" Everyone clapped!
One resident wants to be free from having to use a walker.
One man wants to be not blind anymore and he wants to dance more!
One dear gal wants the doctor to sign off on her having a little wine once in awhile. Her resolution is to be successful in her ask! The crowd erupted into laughter!
One of the staff who is younger wants to not be anxious or bothered by little things. This catulpulted the discussion into an organic, loving therapy session!
The women residents assured her there should be no time wasted on being bothered and that life goes fast.
We made a toast to every resolution before shouting "Hip Hip Hurrah" 3 times to solidify them as prayers!
Then we turned the music up loud and danced to the song by ABBA called, *Dancing Queen!* They were waving their hands in the air and were smiling for miles!
We all went different directions after welcoming the New Year in together. Some played King's Corners with cards, some watched movies, others visited in the main room while a few snuck back to the serene comfort of their rooms. Earlier in the day, Baby Mikey visited! Nothing gets as much attention as a baby in the house!
During towel folding today, the crew prayed for other residents who needed a touch.
The old year was heavy when we lost people we cherished. In balance, it was light in laughter, love and person- centered care.
We believe that 2026 will be the best yet!
Thank you all for following our page this year and for engaging with us! We love you!
And to all our staff-you are exemplary partners in care and the reason these moments are so meaningful! Take care of you while caring for them!
Happy New Year, Indeed!

Courier and Ives could have used our view today to make unforgettable prints! Hollywood could have used it in romantic movies! Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown, ND became a vision! We took residents one by one to look out the window. They simply had to experience this glory!
Look at the adorable snowmen bookmarks the Joyologists helped residents make! And they came in handy just in time! You see, we started a new activity today. We were using today as a test run to see if it is something we would continue with. Residents chose a Christian novel. So many have said that they wish they could read but their eyesight has failed them. So, today we gathered as a large group. Coffee was served as Jodi Rae read the first two and a half chapters dramatically with voice inflections. We were all so intrigued by the story but it was time for lunch. We used the bookmark to tell us where to continue when we gather for the next two or three chapters. They loved this time together. They asked if we can keep doing this. We decided to meet every Monday for our cozy novel club.
Later this afternoon, Orville Ramsey got a kick out of Zander, the Wonderdog. This dog has eyebrows and very floppy ears. Sonja Haaland brought her son Paul in to sachet the dog all around. Oh what joy Zander brought! Sonja brings joy and anticipation by the scrumptious meals and desserts she makes in our dietary department. We are so grateful for her. She came in on her own time to bring Zander to give out gifts of puppy licks of love.
We caught Becky Rickford doing that thing she does. She stops what she's doing to help make life more comfortable for others. Clarence felt like he hadn't gotten enough exercise today and so she exercised with him. The camera woman captured this precious moment.
That's what we all strive to do here at GCCC. We enjoy the views together, we enjoy crafting, gathering, eating, puppy dogs kisses and motivating each other! As long as we do these things together....
Life. Is. Good!

Have you ever experienced pure magic?
Today was purely pure magic at Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown, ND!
The Stokka Band & Orchestra mesmerized us with songs of this blessed season.
The magic happened when people were moved to dance!
Music has a magical voice that transcends every disease, every illness and every struggle. Today was no exception! The children appeared to sing, “Away in a Manger. “ We were all transported back to our own Sunday school Christmas program days from way back 50 to 90 some years ago!
We saw some staff and residents doing the actions to that timeless, Christmas favorite!
The orchestra thought they came just as musicians.
They were nothing short of pure magic!
We love you all for loving us with the language of music!

Christmas at GCCC!
It's been nothing short of grand!
Today we watched Christmas movies, ate, snacked, played Christmas Bingo and them.. residents started to party in Thomas's room because the Detroit Lions were playing the Minnesota Vikings! All of these residents are die hard fans! Staff delivered soda pop and popcorn to them as they yelled at each other over who was going to win the game and why! .. No time to rest!
The Stokka Orchestra is headlining tomorrow at 2 pm and on top of that...
We need to plan New Year's!
🎄 Merry Christmas Dear Friends and Family!
