Being an ally or advocate to any community is about being active. There are many ways to be an active ally to the Autistic community:

♾️ Learn from Autistic humans

♾️ Read books by Autistic writers

♾️ Attend trainings by Autistic facilitators

♾️ Watch YouTube videos by Autistic creators

♾️ Following Autistic Content creators on social media platforms

♾️ Advocate with schools, communities, or politics around accessibility for Autistic people

♾️ and so much more….

Learning directly from a community that you are not apart of is the best and most important way to learn!

Be active in your allyship to the Autistic community. Passive allyship does nothing.

✨Arguments happen in a family and it is (or with some work, it can be) healthy and normal✨.

Many of us grew up in houses where fighting was not healthy; where fighting either did not happen🤐 “at least not in front of us kids” or was really scary😡. In both cases these kids often grow into adults who are uncomfortable with disagreements😶 (either try to stuff their frustrated feelings or express them in ways where they aren’t comfortable and can feel out of control🤯), and then often they grow into parents who do not want their kids to have to deal with the discomfort of fighting.😩

🌱But there is at least one other option. 🌱As parents we can show our kids how to disagree with 👉respect for ourself👈 and for 👉our partner👈. 📍We can model disagreements that are honest and also not scary📍.

💕We can teach our kids they too can express themselves in an honest and respectful way💕.

🤔What kinds of houses did you and your partner grow up in? Were arguments nonexistent, healthy, scary?

❓What story is your kid learning about what arguments look like? What do you like about that story? And what would you like to shift?
💛🌻

We're doing a support group in collaboration with Southern Oregon Coast Pride and the local Qu**rs and Allies group! If you've got a kiddo who is LGBTQIA+ and you're looking for support, come visit us! This Thursday, April 27th, at 5:45 PM. We meet monthly, so if you can't catch this one, keep an eye out for May's group!

Q&A Caregiver support group

When someone we love comes out as LGBTQIA+ we might have questions like:
"How does my kid know they're really LGBTQIA+?"
"How did I not know they were feeling this?"
"What can I do to support them?"
"What questions can I even ask?"

The Q&A Caregiver Support Group is a safe place to ask these questions and more!

This group is open to all parents/guardians of any LGBTQIA+ individual, even if they don't currently attend Q&A. We meet once a month, and each month will be focused around a different topic, with opportunities to bring your own challenges, questions, and other support needs to the table as well!

This month's topic is "FAQ (Fearfully Asked Questions)" where we dive into the questions people are often too afraid or embarassed to ask about LGBTQIA+ identities.

Whether you have questions yourself, want to come to share your experiences with other parents, or even just want to come hang out and test the waters, you are invited to join!

Our next meeting: Thursday April 27th 5:45 - 7 PM
