August is National Breastfeeding Month!

Breastfeeding has many health benefits for babies. The CDC recommends that babies be breastfed for the first two years of their lives to fully experience those benefits.

We understand that going back to work can present a challenge to meeting the CDC’s recommendation. This is why we created a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace toolkit. Learn more about your rights around breastfeeding at work at https://bit.ly/3WHRp8L and share it with your employer!

Understanding Heat and Health: What You Need to Know

Extreme heat poses significant health risks, particularly during long heatwaves or sudden temperature increases. Prolonged exposure can lead to heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which can be life-threatening.

Vulnerable groups include older adults, young children, those with chronic medical conditions, outdoor workers, and people without air conditioning. To stay safe, use fans or air conditioning, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid outdoor activities in the hottest parts of the day.

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty, and limit alcohol and caffeine. Check on neighbors, especially the elderly or those living alone. If someone shows signs of heat stroke—confusion, high body temperature, or loss of consciousness—seek emergency medical help immediately. With proper precautions, most heat-related illnesses can be prevented.
