Why Chemical Peels Are Not Recommended During Extremely Cold Weather ❄️
Very cold temperatures can negatively affect the skin after a chemical peel. Here’s why:
1. Increased skin sensitivity
Cold weather weakens the skin’s natural barrier. After a chemical peel, the skin is already vulnerable, which can lead to:
irritation and burning
excessive redness
delayed healing
2. Higher risk of skin damage
Post-peel skin is thinner and more reactive. Exposure to freezing temperatures and wind may cause:
broken capillaries
extreme dryness
surface frostbite in severe conditions
3. Slower regeneration
Cold weather reduces blood circulation, which slows down the skin’s natural repair process. This can result in:
prolonged peeling
uneven healing
reduced treatment results
4. Increased risk of hyperpigmentation
Compromised skin combined with environmental stress increases the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), especially if proper aftercare and protection are not followed.
When can chemical peels still be done in winter?
✔️ Mild winter temperatures
✔️ Limited outdoor exposure after treatment
✔️ Proper post-treatment skincare
✔️ Gentle, non-exfoliating peels (e.g. PRX-T33)
