Completely heartbroken 😔 to share that I am closing Mark9 Pediatrics. Even though we are growing, it has not been rapid enough for a small practice trying to recover from the financial impact of the pandemic.

We will continue to provide the same compassionate and comprehensive care until we close our doors at the end of March.

It’s been a privilege to be a part of the Coppell small business community for the last few years.

Thanks for trusting me and my team with the care of your children, and I wish everyone health and success. 💜

As a black, immigrant woman who is also a physician and business owner, I understand that my position and success sits on the shoulders of many courageous and passionate leaders. MLK Day is a special day of reflection for me.

It’s a moment to think on the progress that has been made so far and the work yet to be done. It’s continuous work both internal and external to build a community where equity and inclusion are as natural as gravitating to the familiar. We would all rather work with, be friends with, do business with and live near people who look like us, think like us, parent like us, grew up like us, worship like us, sound like us… That’s a small, narrow existence. That’s not what life is about. Life is about growth, expanding our experiences, sharing our gifts, learning each day, giving love where it is needed.

I have been afforded much by the work of great leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. I choose to honor that by being the change I want to see. This is why in my personal and professional life, I champion serving the underserved and marginalized. It will always be this way for me. I’m too blessed to live any other way.

How about you?

12/19/2022

Mark9 Pediatrics will be closed 12/23-12/26
We hope you have a holiday filled with more laughter than tears, more togetherness than separation, and more love than your heart can hold.

Happy Holy-Days from all of us at Mark9 Pediatrics!

This beautiful image from captures a topic we don’t talk about a lot in pediatrics. Grief.

This week I sat with some families of pr***ens that were going through a very specific type of loss. Not the loss of a family member. Not the death of a loved one. Not even grief due to illness. These kids were mourning the loss of childhood.

The pr***en years can be so complex in the way bodies, minds, friendships, and expectations change. It’s like a switch goes off between 5th grade and 7th grade and we simply expect a smooth uneventful transition.

Some pr***ens adjust quickly. Others take their time with this loss. It’s a personal and private loss that they often can’t even articulate. So they might WITHDRAW. Become MOODY. Get IRRITABLE. Have CRYING SPELLS. Even appear to be DEPRESSED.

Do those words in capital sound familiar? Do they remind you of a pr***en you know? Do they also remind you of a person who is grieving?

Grief is a natural and unavoidable part of life. How we support someone who is grieving is a big part of how they process the loss and move forward.

Reframe your thoughts on childhood transitions. Talk to your child’s and check out resources on the AAP website.

It’s a day for gratitude and celebrating what we have. A day to be with loved ones, and remember those who aren’t here. A day to be reminded that life is a precious gift and we are blessed with it. For all this life has been and all it still has to give, find the good and be grateful for it.

Happy Thanksgiving Day everyone 💜

Meet our new nurse practitioner: Christie Camizzi CPNP-PC. Christie joined Mark9 Pediatrics last month and is already a great addition to the team!

Christie was born and raised in Plano, Texas. She is married with two grown daughters: Haley and Sophia. Haley is a second-grade teacher and Sophia recently graduated with an Animal Science degree and currently works with the animal rescue at the Brown County Humane Society. As an animal lover herself, Christie has two dogs and two cats that she loves so much!

Christie received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University and her Master’s from the University of Texas at Arlington. Christie is a Board Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB). Upon graduation from nursing school, Christie worked at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, followed by working in local pediatric clinics, pediatric urgent care centers and as a school nurse for Plano Independent School District. Christie has also owned On-Call for Kids, a pediatric nurse triage service for over 20 years.

Christie’s passion for children has been apparent from an early age when she would often “nurse” her athletic sister’s injuries and as a young teenager, she volunteered at the Plano hospital. Now, Christie loves to teach wellness to kids and help them develop healthy habits as they grow, establishing a foundation of good nutrition, exercise, sleep, and mental health.

Christie loves going to the gym, hiking, pilates, yoga and cycling. Her family enjoys traveling, playing cards, and watching the Dallas Cowboys! She volunteers at the church nursery and attends Chase Oaks church in Plano.

Mark9 Pediatrics is 3 years old today! 🥳🥳🥳

It’s a good time to reflect… I opened this practice with excitement, joy and hope. I knew I was doing what I love most - helping kids get to their best health - and doing it in a way that gives them dignity and self-confidence. How can that fail?! Well no one told me there was a pandemic scheduled for 2 months after I opened. Ooh the pandemic hit us all hard!!!! But I’m a fighter. Throw me to the wolves and I’ll come back leading the pack. That is one of my life mottos. I can do all things because I am so blessed to have a strong faith thanks to my parents, and an incredible social circle that holds me up.

Even with that, 2020 and 2021 were difficult beyond words, and I considered closing the practice many times. During those periods I learned that just because you are struggling doesn’t mean you have failed. Instead I put sweat, tears and a lot of personal investment into keeping things going because I love what I do and my Mark9 family is absolutely incredible! Every single patient and family deserves a place where they feel seen, heard and respected regardless of their age, race, religion, ethnicity, language, culture, income level, education, accent, emotional needs, or difference from the “typical”. This is my passion and providing that level of service and care energizes me.

Now here we are, three years into this beautiful grace called Mark9 Pediatrics and I am so grateful for everyone and everything that came my way to get me to this point. I’ve smiled through it! Pre-pandemic. Mid-pandemic. And can we say we are approaching post-pandemic (I’ll say it 😅) Three pictures covering 3 periods. Through it all God, family, friends and my Mark9 family have kept me smiling and thriving.

Thank you all for everything!
