Coos County Search and Rescue Team Successfully Locates Missing Person Near Highway 101

On July 28, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM, North Coos Dispatch received a report of a missing person near mile marker 248.5 on Highway 101, off Bare Flat Road. Deputy Churchill responded promptly, gathering critical information to coordinate with the Coos County Search and Rescue Team (SART). The missing individual, Hilary, was last seen on July 27, 2025, around 2:30 PM.

Deputy Baker arrived as Incident Commander to oversee operations. SART deployed a canine unit to Hilary’s last known location, and the United States Coast Guard provided aerial support with a helicopter. The search continued late into the night, with Deputies Baker, Churchill, and SART narrowing down Hilary’s possible location. However, due to darkness and the steep, hazardous terrain, the search was suspended until the following morning.

At approximately 7:00 AM on July 29, 2025, Deputies Baker, Churchill, M.R. Smith, and multiple SART members resumed the search. By 9:50 AM, Hilary was located and safely escorted back to Highway 101, where medics from Bay Cities Ambulance were waiting. Hilary was transported to Bay Area Hospital for treatment of dehydration and minor injuries. We extend our gratitude to all agencies and personnel involved for their exceptional teamwork and dedication in successfully locating Hilary.

🚨Coos County Deploys SAR in the Search for Dane Paulsen🚨

On March 7, 2025, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office deployed elements of the Coos County Search and Rescue (SAR) Team with equipment to assist in the search for two year old Dane Paulsen in Siletz, Oregon.

Dane was last seen on March 1, 2025 in rural Lincoln County. Our Coos County community understands the pain associated with this type of search and the Coos County Sheriff’s Office is proud to answer the call for assistance.

Responding SAR members are trained in, and may assist with, Overhead (planning) support, swift water rescue, drone deployment and boat operation. SAR members are assisting by relieving fatigued staff who have been tirelessly searching for days.

Search for Dane Paulsen - 4pm Update

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and partnering agencies have continued active search operations and followed up on informational tips in the search for Dane Paulsen throughout today. These efforts are ongoing with officials completing additional ground, water, and air searches. The investigation team continues to follow up on leads from community members. Official search efforts are planned through this evening and into tomorrow.

Community members are not encouraged to search during the evening hours due to decreased visibility and increased chance of injury. Community members can help by sharing official updates which can be found on our FlashAlert and page and by reporting relevant information to the tip line: 541-265-0669

So far, 311 miles have been covered and 682 acres have been searched. Of those 682 acres, community volunteers searched 230 acres, for which we are incredibly grateful.
Additionally, the following resources have been deployed during the search for Dane:
- 88 Certified Search and Rescue Members
- 4 Watercraft
- 13 Divers

Updates will continue to be shared through FlashAlert and our social media as they become available. The next media release is expected tomorrow morning March 4, 2025, unless major updates become available sooner.

Once again, we thank our community for their compassion and assistance. Our team and the community are working to bring Dane home.
