“Mi relación con mis clientes que se están recuperando de un TCA es una de igualdad, respetó mutuo y solidaridad. Para mi, la cultura de la dieta y la gordxfobia están intrínsecamente conectadas con todas las injusticias sociales. Como profesionales en el espacio HAES y no dieta necesitamos escuchar y amplificar las voces mas marginadas. Es importante ir a la raíz de como se sostiene la cultura de la dieta para poder desmantelarlo y lograr liberación corporal para todxs........
My relationship with my clients that are in recovery from an eating disorder is one of equality, mutual respect and solidarity. Fatphobia and diet culture are intrinsically connected to other social justice issues. As professionals in the HAES/ non diet space we need to listen to and amplify the voices of those most marginalized if we want to change the ways we practice and provide care. It’s important to go the root of how diet culture sustains itself if we want liberation for all bodies.

My 4th of July involves listening to “Fearing the Black Body” Today I celebrate the freedom fighters that fight against injustice here in the US and around the world. If you want to learn the US history you were probably not taught in school I highly recommend “A People’s History of the United States” by Howard Zinn

Reposted from //CW:
mentions sexual violence, misogyny, death

Her name was Oluwatoyin “Toyin” Salau and she was 19 years old. She was on the frontlines of the Movement for Black Lives in Tallahassee, Florida seeking justice for Black people everywhere. During the pandemic she experienced housing insecurity and took shelter in a church. Recently, she was sexually assaulted and told the world about it via Twitter soon after she went missing. Her body was discovered Saturday, and confirmed by her family this morning.

Toyin is no longer with us, and we are devastated. Toyin deserves to be here. She like many other Black women and girls in this country are living at the intersection of racial injustice and sexual violence — they deserve justice! We will , we will demand justice for Toyin and every girl that experiences violence, we will protect black girls, we will honor black girls and we will burn down whole cities in their name!

If you believe Black Lives Matter —
you will join us in lifting up Oluwatoyin’s life.

Let me start by saying and Critical Dietetics are two amazing resources examining and addressing the structural issues within the field of Dietetics (I’m sure there are more feel free to add below) Now...this image you see is the reality of the past. The reality of the present is that this statistic has remained unchanged for decades. In fact, there has been a decrease in the percent of black dietitians over the last 20 years.
The reality of today is being a black dietitian, going to FNCE in 2017 and hearing a white dietetic internship educator say, “I had an African American in my internship class last year and she didn’t pass her RD exam so I just don’t know”. This is unacceptable.

As an immigrant myself, I am particularly interested in the lived experiences of my immigrant clients. I always encourage clients to spend time unpacking all the ways that immigration related trauma has shaped them. Together we examine the adaptive and maladaptive aspects of the survival mechanisms they may have developed to move through this period of abrupt transition in their lives. We also spend time sitting with the painful separations and sense of “other-ness” that often accompany the experience of immigration. - ⁣

For those in eating disorder recovery, meals and snacks can be challenging. Sometimes, things go smoothly. Other times, every bite can be a struggle. Stressful circumstances can lead to a resurgence of old behaviors. That’s where meal support comes in.⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣
While your treatment team provides the bread and butter of your care, they’re not always available. And as you make headway in your recovery, you’ll likely have less contact with your providers. Meal support is often the missing link in outpatient eating disorder care. It offers the real-time, in-the-moment guidance that helps you normalize your eating and heal your relationship with food. With meal support, you can address thoughts and feelings as they occur and then – through exposure, coping skills, and the support of your facilitator and peers – practice more adaptive, recovery-oriented responses.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
So come join Christine Tellez , registered dietitian nutritionist, certified in intuitive eating, for food, coffee, and conversation. Make mealtime a positive experience. From the comfort and privacy of your home, you’ll find support, encouragement, education, and community. Whether you’re struggling in recovery, interested in eating disorder and social justice topics, or just in need of a little extra support, Christine is just a click away (link in bio). Connect with peers. Get guidance over a meal. Learn. Grow. Nourish yourself. ⁣⁣

We made the decision to move 100% online beginning today, March 16th. This was a tough decision but one we made with your (and the community’s) health in mind. We will continue to gather information and will reevaluate this decision on a weekly basis. We wish everyone safety, health, and peace during this difficult time.
