UM-NSU CARD is a comprehensive outreach and support program serving people with autism and related disabilities, their families, and the professionals who work with them. UM-NSU CARD operates in three Florida counties under the supervision of a constituency board comprised of constituents and family members who help guide program policy priorities and activities. Our services include:

Congratulations to our colleague, Cecilia Alvarez-Tabio, on receiving CARD’s Robin Parker Inspiration Award this year. This award is given to a CARD staff member who embodies Robin’s spirit of care and compassion and her exemplary clinical skills. Cecilia is the Manager of CARD’s Assessment and Intervention Services Division and has developed and provided unique evidence-based parent coaching interventions for our families. She has also taken on a primary role in training other CARD staff, as well as graduate practicum trainees, on these interventions. Cecilia is an extraordinarily skilled clinician, providing interventions with fidelity and rigor while also displaying empathy and sensitivity to each family’s unique needs. Congratulation Cecilia! Your dedication and passion inspire us every day.

Congratulations to Manny Cid, former Mayor of Miami Lakes, current Sr. Advisor for Economic Opportunity in Miami-Dade County, and longtime advocate and CHAMPION of CARD!
Manny was the first government official to welcome CARD to Miami Lakes in 2014 and has been a consistent supporter of our mission and community impact. Manny has been a true inspiration in the way in which he forges partnerships and leverages them for the benefit of all South Floridians, especially those with autism and related disabilities and their loved ones. In addition to his many accomplishments, his creation of the Mayor’s Ball which benefits the Miami Lakes Special Needs Advisory Board, was truly innovative and inspiring and has had lasting impact.

Congratulations to our former colleague, beloved friend, and admired leader in our field, Dr. Marlene Sotelo, on receiving the CARD Legacy Award this year!

Marlene’s career is full of remarkable accomplishments including her years of service to UM-NSU CARD. Marlene is a lifelong learner, with degrees in special education, music therapy, and applied behavior analysis, who is now leading the remarkable Els Center of Excellence as Executive Director. Marlene’s intellect, creativity, clinical excellence, and leadership are indeed leaving a lasting legacy that all of us at UM-NSU CARD celebrate.

Congratulations to Tammy Gipps on receiving the Outstanding School Partner Award! Tammy has been an integral part of the autism community in Broward for many years, so this recognition is certainly long overdue. She has done an amazing job at the Baudhuin School at NSU with all the different roles she’s filled, whether it’s helping families, staff or collaborating with outside agencies like CARD. She has facilitated support groups, organized resource fairs and so much more. Tammy has been a great CARD partner and collaborator throughout the years and we fthank her for all of her hard work and dedication.

Congratulations to Dr. Arleen Gonzalez, recipient of the 2025 Outstanding School Partner Award! Dr. Gonzalez who alongside her peers at the Miami-Dade County Public Schools - Autism Support Office, has worked tirelessly in making sure collaboration is at the forefront of us supporting students, families, and their teachers. While doing so, she has also managed to continue her professional development by earning a PhD. in Educational Leadership and Innovation as well as being promoted as the Instructional Supervisor over the district's ASD Support Specialists. Join me in recognizing her for all of her accomplishments and continued dedication towards providing answers and solutions towards many of our families. May she continue to serve as a role model and mentor for other professionals for many years to come. Thank you for always thinking of our families as if they were yours!"

Congratulations to the Miami-Dade Firefighters and Metro-Dade Local 1403 on CARD’s Outstanding Philanthropist Award! For the past 6 years this amazing team has been hosting their Annual Autism Bike Ride bringing together our community and spreading autism awareness! Proceeds from the event have been donated to CARD. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for your contributions.

A special thank you to Lieutenant Jeannette Harrington for putting this event together year after year!
