Preparing properly before surgery plays a major role in both your safety and your recovery.

Every patient at our practice meets with our team 3 to 4 weeks before surgery for a detailed pre-operative appointment (either in-person or virtually). During this visit we review everything, from medications to recovery expectations, so you feel fully prepared for the procedure and the healing process.

Here are a few of the most important guidelines we review with patients:

➡️ Two Weeks Before Surgery

• Stop taking NSAIDs such as Advil, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aspirin, or Aleve unless cleared by Dr. Afrooz
• Discontinue ni****ne products including ci******es, va**ng, and ni****ne gum
• Avoid alcohol consumption
• Stop any unapproved supplements or vitamins
• Begin supplements such as Bromelain and Arnica, which may help minimize swelling and bruising

➡️ The Night Before Surgery

• Do not eat or drink anything after midnight
• Remove all permanent piercings and colored nail polish
• Remove false eyelashes and hair extensions
• Prepare soft foods for recovery such as soups, smoothies, or yogurt
• Focus on nutritious, high-protein foods to support healing

➡️ Morning of Surgery

• Brush teeth without swallowing water
• Do not wear makeup, lotion, perfume, contacts, or hair products
• Remove all jewelry and piercings
• Wear comfortable clothing such as a zip-up or button-down shirt
• Bring all medications we provided with you

These steps help minimize bleeding, reduce swelling, and create the safest possible surgical experience.

💡 Early Recovery Reminders

• Drink a normal amount of water during recovery, avoid excessive fluid intake, which can contribute to swelling
• Limit high-sodium foods, as salt can increase post-operative swelling

Our team provides every patient with detailed written instructions and ongoing support throughout the process so you always know what to expect before and after your procedure.

If you’re planning facial surgery or have questions about preparing for surgery, our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Save this post if you’re planning surgery or preparing for an upcoming procedure with us!

Botox can relax muscles.
But it cannot lift heavy tissue.

One of the most common questions patients ask is whether Botox can correct a low or drooping brow. The answer depends on why the brow is low in the first place.

In younger patients with naturally low brows, small adjustments with neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport can sometimes create a subtle lift by relaxing the muscles that pull the brow downward. But as we age, the situation changes.

Over time, the soft tissues of the forehead loosen and descend, which can create heaviness across the brow and upper eyelids. At that point, relaxing muscles with Botox may soften wrinkles, but it will not reposition the brow itself.

That’s where a brow lift becomes the more effective solution.

A brow lift restores the brow to a more natural, youthful position by addressing the underlying structure rather than temporarily weakening the muscles.

The goal isn’t a dramatic arch. It’s restoring balance between the forehead, brow, and upper eyelids.

Sometimes Botox is enough.
Sometimes anatomy requires a different approach.
Understanding the difference is the first step.

If you’ve noticed heaviness across your brows or upper eyelids, a consultation can help determine the most appropriate option for your anatomy.

⬆️ Look closely.

In the “before,” notice the degree of cervical skin redundancy and lower face laxity. Significant jowling, loss of jawline definition, and excess submental skin created a heavy neck contour.

Now look again. 👀

Her birthmark on the right cheek has shifted position, from the mid-cheek toward a more lateral location near the ear. We didn’t move the birthmark. We repositioned the underlying facial structures.

A deep plane lower face and neck lift releases and repositions the descended SMAS layer and soft tissue as a unit. By correcting tissue descent at its foundation and removing excess skin, we restore definition to the jawline and improve the cervicomental angle.

❌ This is not skin tightening.
✅ This is structural restoration.

The result: A cleaner neck contour, elimination of heavy jowls, and natural repositioning of facial landmarks.

If you’re noticing progressive neck laxity or a “turkey neck” appearance that won’t respond to noninvasive treatments, a comprehensive evaluation can determine whether surgical correction is appropriate.

📩 Schedule a consultation to discuss your options.

Our patient is 49 years old and now 6 weeks out from her deep plane face and neck lift, healing beautifully.

One detail patients often ask about is incision placement. In her case, I chose a pretragal incision (placed just in front of the tragus) rather than hiding it behind the tragus. Why? Because she already had natural preauricular creases, which allow the incision to heal within those lines and blend seamlessly over time.

Incision design is never one-size-fits-all. It depends on skin quality, existing creases, degree of laxity, and ear anatomy.

At 6 weeks post-op, you can already see how well she’s healing. As swelling continues to resolve and scars mature, these incisions typically become very difficult to detect.

If you’re considering a deep plane facelift and have questions about scarring or incision placement, schedule a consultation to discuss what approach would be best for your anatomy.

I’m often asked why I don’t offer non-surgical or “noninvasive” skin tightening devices for significant lower face and neck laxity.

Here’s the reality:

If a patient has true jowling, skin redundancy, and descended SMAS tissue, that is a structural, biomechanical issue. Energy-based devices may temporarily heat the skin, but they do not reposition descended facial structures or remove excess tissue.

When laxity is advanced, the solution must address:

➡️ The underlying SMAS layer
➡️ Excess skin
➡️ Platysmal banding in the neck
➡️ Tissue descent along the jawline

That’s why, for appropriate candidates, we recommend a deep plane face and neck lift, because it corrects the anatomy rather than attempting to mask it.

There is nothing wrong with noninvasive treatments in the right context. But they are not substitutes for surgical correction when true laxity is present.

If you’re unsure whether your concerns require surgical correction or something less invasive, a consultation can help clarify your options!

Different neuromodulators hit different.

Not all tox is created equal, and not every face responds the same way. Metabolism, muscle strength, dosing patterns, prior exposure, even lifestyle all play a role in how a brand performs for you. That’s why some patients swear by one and others feel smoother, longer, or more “natural” on another.

As an injector, I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. I believe in:

* Understanding muscle anatomy
* Adjusting dosing patterns
* Choosing the right product for the patient
* And refining over time

Today we treated 5 areas with 64 units for my coworker Victoria 🤍.

Fun fact: She was my patient before she started working here, which makes it even more special that she trusts me with her face.

Neuromodulators are about customization, precision, and knowing your patient.

If your skin feels dull, uneven, or textured, microneedling is one of the most effective ways to reset it.

SkinPen microneedling works by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production, helping improve fine lines, acne scars, enlarged pores, and overall texture. Over the next several weeks, skin looks smoother, firmer, and more refined, without significant downtime.

If you’ve been thinking about microneedling in Miami, our team at Beauty By Afrooz would be happy to guide you through it.

This patient came to us ready for meaningful change. Over time, she developed significant lower facial laxity, pronounced jowling, skin redundancy, and visible platysmal banding, all common signs of advanced aging in the lower face and neck. Skin quality alone was not the primary issue. The deeper structural support had descended.

She underwent a deep plane lower face and neck lift to address the underlying SMAS layer and reposition descended tissues at their foundation. In the neck, careful platysma management and redraping of excess skin allowed for restoration of definition.

Facial rejuvenation at this level requires a thoughtful approach to anatomy and individualized surgical planning.

If you’re noticing progressive neck laxity, jowling, or loss of jawline definition, a comprehensive evaluation is the first step.

📩 Schedule a consultation to learn whether a deep plane lower face and neck lift is appropriate for you.

Long days in the operating room require more than focus, they require endurance. Spending hours performing deep plane face and neck lifts means maintaining steady posture from start to finish.

Recently, I started using the NekSpine support and it’s made a noticeable difference in reducing neck and upper back strain.

When your work depends on precision, even small improvements in comfort and stability matter. This has been a helpful addition on surgical days.

At 49 years old, facial aging is often less about the skin itself and more about what’s happening underneath.

⬆️ Shown here at 6 weeks post-op, my beautiful patient underwent a deep plane lower face and neck lift to restore structural support where laxity develops with time, combined with Erbium deep resurfacing laser to the under eye area to refine texture and improve skin quality.

The lift addresses the deeper layers of the face and neck, repositioning tissue rather than pulling skin, allowing the jawline and neck to look smooth, natural, and balanced. ✨ The resurfacing laser focuses on the surface, softening fine lines and improving tone in a delicate area where precision matters.

Structure first. Skin second.

Recovery is an essential part of the surgical journey, and it deserves the same level of care and attention as the procedure itself.

For our face and neck lift patients, we offer a private recovery suite located in the same building as our office, designed for comfort, discretion, and peace of mind. Patients may stay for 24–48 hours or longer, supported by a dedicated caregiver nurse in a calm, closely monitored environment.

This is a carefully considered extension of our surgical care, created to support healing, comfort, and safety during the most important first phase of recovery.

Most of a smooth surgery day happens before you ever step into the operating room.

On the morning of surgery, we keep preparation simple and intentional. No makeup. No jewelry. Comfortable clothing. These details may seem small, but they matter, for safety, efficiency, and focus.

Well before surgery day, every patient meets with us in person for a comprehensive pre-operative appointment, typically 3-4 weeks in advance. During this visit, we take the time to prepare you properly and answer questions thoroughly, so nothing feels rushed or unclear later.

At this appointment, we:

- Review your full medical history
- Provide detailed pre and post-operative instructions
- Answer questions and address concerns
- Take standardized medical photographs
- Provide the necessary medications in advance

Thoughtful preparation allows surgery day to feel calm, organized, and predictable.

Additional information about consultations and surgical planning is available on our website.
