When emotions run high or decisions feel overwhelming, HOW you respond matters.

The DBT mindfulness “how” skills can help you access your wise mind. This is the calm, centered space between logic and emotion.

💭 Nonjudgmentally – Notice what’s happening without labeling it as “good” or “bad.” Focus on “just the facts.”

🧘One-mindfully – Be fully present with one thing at a time. Let go of distractions and multi-tasking.

⚖️ Effectively – Focus on what actually works, not what you believe should work. Act as skillfully as you can in the situations you face.

Diagnoses aren’t adjectives. When someone has a mental health diagnosis, this means that they have a number of symptoms and that their functioning is significantly impaired. When we refer to people casually as “OCD” or typical behaviors as “narcissistic” or “trauma-inducing,” we dilute these concepts and invalidate those who actually struggle with related symptoms and behaviors.
