What do we do when the Myofunctional Spot Therapy Box accidentally gets left at home for a session?

We adapt.

Because true function isn’t dependent on a tool - it’s driven by skill, strategy, and intention.

In this session, we’re targeting lip strength, stability, and control using nothing more than a spoon and a little motivation (hi, Nutella 😉). And guess what? The work is just as effective—because the goal isn’t the tool… it’s the function.

Sometimes the most powerful moments in therapy aren’t planned—they’re created in real time.

That’s where true carryover happens. That’s where skills become real life.

This is what functional therapy looks like.

This is exactly why we don’t “wait and see.”

4 sessions.

We are already seeing clear functional changes in oral coordination, strength, and overall patterning… and visible facial changes as development begins to shift in the right direction.

When you address oral function early, the body responds quickly and efficiently.

We don’t chase symptoms.
We treat the why behind them.

If your child is:
• Struggling with feeding
• Mouth breathing
• Snoring or restless sleep
• Delayed oral development

Don’t wait.

Early intervention changes everything. ✨

From exhausted to rested in 8 sessions. This patient came to us exhausted and desperate for help.

Snoring every night.
Restless sleep.
Difficulty breathing through his nose.
Teeth grinding.

After 8 sessions focused on oral function, airway, and breathing patterns:

No more snoring.
No more grinding.
Improved nasal breathing.
And most importantly — restful, restorative sleep.

If you look closely, you may notice subtle changes in the face:
A more relaxed lower face
Improved lip posture
A less fatigued, more alert appearance

These are not cosmetic changes.

They are the external reflection of what is happening internally:
Improved airway dynamics

Reduced muscular compensation
A more regulated nervous system

Sleep is foundational.

When breathing improves, sleep improves.
And when sleep improves, everything changes.

“Will Myofunctional Therapy work for me??”

This is a question I hear every day.

After 11 telehealth sessions focused on oral rest posture, nasal breathing, and neuromuscular coordination, this patient began experiencing more restful, restorative sleep.

If you look closely, you may also notice:
• Improved lip seal
• A more relaxed lower face
• Reduced compensatory facial tension

These subtle visible changes are simply a reflection of what is happening internally:

✨Improved airway stability
✨More efficient breathing patterns
✨Decreased muscular compensation
✨Better nervous system regulation

Sleep is not separate from oral function — it is deeply connected.

When function improves, the body follows. ✨

Lip incompetence is not a behavior. It is a functional deficit.

What you’re seeing here is a targeted lip strengthening exercise as part of orofacial myofunctional therapy.

Inadequate lip seal is often associated with:
• Open mouth posture
• Chronic mouth breathing
• Poor tongue-to-palate resting posture
• Reduced intraoral pressure for swallowing
• Articulation and feeding challenges

These patterns are not random. They reflect underlying muscular dysfunction and compensatory habits.

Through structured myofunctional therapy, we address:
✔ Lip strength and endurance
✔ Coordination of the orofacial musculature
✔ Functional integration with breathing, swallowing, and speech

Because without adequate lip seal, optimal oral function cannot be established.

Early intervention is key.
Addressing these patterns at the level of function leads to more efficient and sustainable outcomes.

There’s nothing better than celebrating real progress, restored function, and confident smiles… this is why we do what we do.

✨ Real progress. Functional change.

After just 7 myofunctional therapy sessions (via telehealth), we’re already seeing meaningful shifts in both function and appearance.

What changed?

• Improved facial tone and muscle activation
• More stable, balanced facial/oral resting posture
• Reduction in tongue thrust patterns
• Noticeable improvement in smile symmetry and control
• Better tongue positioning and awareness

Look closely at the “before” smile - you can see the tongue pushing forward (tongue thrust) and reduced muscle support.

Now compare that to the “after” - stronger, better positioning, more controlled, and more functional.

This is exactly why we focus on function first.

Noted functional improvements:
✔️Reduced snoring.
✔️Better sleep.
✔️Better breathing.
✔️Improved reflux and digestion due to improved swallow function.
✔️Better daytime focus.
✔️Reduced neck & facial tension.
✔️Decreased jaw pain.
✔️Decreased headaches.
✔️Decreased anxiety - better mood.
✔️Improved speech.

This amazing client is now properly prepared for release, setting the stage for optimal outcomes. She will continue to see improvements in function and symptoms over the next several weeks as she continues post-frenectomy therapy.

It is not cosmetic.

It is neuromuscular re-patterning, strengthening and balancing the right Orofacial muscles and reducing compensations in the wrong muscles.

This is NOT a cosmetic result. No Botox. No Fillers.

Same person. 8 weeks apart.

The results are undeniable and amazing

What changed?

Not her face.
Not her facial structure.

👉 Her function
👉 Her neuromuscular re-patterning
👉 Tongue tie release

✅The tension in her chin - relaxed
✅The tension in her lips - relaxed
✅The facial tension - relaxed
✅Jawline - improved
✅The compensation patterns - reduced
✅Tension in the body - reduced

We sent this client to the amazing for her tongue release. This is how collaboration works. Seamlessly.

Therapy will continue for several more weeks. To ensure best outcomes long term. Symptoms and function will continue to improve.

7 sessions. That’s it.

No braces.
No appliances.
No quick fixes.

Just FUNCTION.

When you address the root cause instead of chasing symptoms… everything changes.

This is what happens when we stop focusing only on teeth
and start looking at the entire system:

• Tongue function
• Oral posture
• Muscle patterns
• Airway

Most people have never even been evaluated this way.

Because this is not traditional speech therapy.
And it’s not dentistry.

This is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy with a qualified specialized Speech Pathologist (SLP).

And this is why we see results like this in a matter of weeks. As we progress through the full program, this client will experience even more progress in functional symptoms.

If you’ve been told to “wait”
or that everything “looks fine”
but you know something is off…

Trust that.

You’re not crazy. You’re just looking in the wrong place.

We find what others miss. Choosing the right provider is the difference.

Myofunctional Therapy vs. Speech Therapy
It’s important to clarify that myofunctional therapy and speech therapy are not the same thing. Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a type of therapy that certain Speech-Language Pathologists (also known as Speech Therapists) specialize in. Not all speech therapists have pursued the additional training and experience necessary to become proficient in assessing and treating Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs).

Myofunctional therapy can be considered a foundational treatment when approaching speech problems. However, speech therapy will NOT aid in resolving an Oromyofunctional Disorder. Some children receive speech therapy for years, with no progress. Some people carry their speech articulation errors into adulthood. I am sure we can all think of an adult that we know who has an obvious “lisp” or who pronounces certain sounds differently. Oftentimes in these cases, there is something deeper going on that has been overlooked.

How Can Myofunctional Therapy Help With Speech?

What’s great about myofunctional therapy is that it can be used as a foundational treatment when addressing speech problems. Myofunctional therapy programs can teach both adults and children precise movements and placement of the tongue, along with the muscle control that can address functional problems related to speech, as well as chewing and the oral prep phase of swallowing.
