Running a medical practice shouldn’t feel like a battle just to keep the doors open — yet that’s the reality for many clinicians today.

In Medical Economics, I discuss the high administrative burden and stagnant reimbursement rates that independent practitioners and their teams face before we even care for a single patient. These pressures not only impact physician well-being, but they threaten access to care for our patients and the sustainability of practices across the country.

We must address these structural challenges with thoughtful solutions that preserve patient care, support providers, and ensure that medicine remains a profession grounded in service — not paperwork.

✨ I’d like to share some moments from a few days ago at the Massachusetts Chapter ACP Annual Meeting.

It was a privilege to present, lecture, and connect with colleagues who are making such a difference in internal medicine and patient care.

Highlights included:

Delivering a lecture on genetics.

Joining Dr. Michael Barry for a thoughtful discussion on shared clinical decision-making.

Celebrating Dr. Elisa Choi as she received the Chapter Laureate Award.

Reconnecting with outstanding leaders and friends, including Dr. Judith Melin, Dr. Judith Steinberg, Dr. Louis Snitkoff, Dr. George Abraham, and many others.

Under the leadership of Dr. Judith Melin, the Massachusetts Chapter continues to thrive—advancing advocacy, education, and community health in meaningful ways.

I am grateful for the opportunity to witness the impact of our members and to celebrate the spirit of collaboration that defines ACP.

🎥 Today, I had the privilege of joining the ACP Council of Student Members meeting.

I was truly inspired by the passion and dedication of our medical students—our future leaders of medicine.

In these challenging times, as they navigate residencies, evolving educational models, and federal policy changes on loan repayment, their perseverance is remarkable. They continue to advocate for their peers, improve education, and prepare to become the next generation of physicians.

I am proud that they are part of our College and excited to see how they will shape the future of internal medicine.

Grateful to be at American College of Physicians (ACP) headquarters in Philadelphia for our summer Board of Regents meeting—an incredible group of accomplished, dedicated colleagues.

It’s always energizing to connect with leaders like Dr. Rebecca Andrews, Chair of the Board, and Dr. Michael Tan, our Treasurer, as we work together to strengthen internal medicine and advocate for primary care.

Wrapped up the day with a wonderful dinner at Bloomsday Café with our Executive Committee—great friends, great food, and meaningful conversations.

Proud to help lead the way forward for our patients and our profession. And extra thankful to share these moments with my partner Sara Lee Rocha Borges Realtor —grateful to have her by my side.
