He provides a variety of services to patients at this facility, including physical exams and sports medicine, along with diagnosis and treatment for chronic conditions, such
as high blood pressure and high cholesterol. His Sports Medicine practice ranges from weekend warriors to top professionals and Olympians and everyone in between. Dr. Calonje attended MDC and studied Honors Psychology. He earned a Scholarship and studied Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami in Coral Gables. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Sciences while on the Dean's List @ FIU in Miami. Dr. Calonje attended Medical School at the Autonomous School of Medical Sciences in Costa Rica. He then completed a Residency in Family Medicine and had Fellowship training in Sports Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Since he began practicing sports medicine in 2002, Dr. Calonje has covered many events, including Amateur and Golden Gloves Boxing, Professional Boxing, WNBA Basketball, Mixed Martial Arts, the Chicago Marathon and Nike Human Race 10K, UIC Soccer and Volleyball, Florida State University Athletics, Special Olympics, F.I.U. Athletics, University of Miami Athletics, and more. He has served as Medical Director of South Florida Sports Medicine and Primary Care since 2011. Dr. Calonje was born in Managua, Nicaragua. His father was a Pediatrician who practiced for 20 years in Mexico and Nicaragua and 20 years in Miami, Florida. His brother is an OB/GYN currently practicing Urogynecology at Amita Health / St. Alexius Medical Center in Illinois.
